Is this normal?

Yes, cool air good, hot air bad - it's all to do with density.

Normal? Absolutely! Hot air contains less oxygen as it's less dense, so the engine can't burn the fuel as efficiently.

Just keep your right foot off a bit, and especially don't give it any beans after it's been standing in traffic, queueing, etc.

Last summer after a blast and a little play with a Celica GT4 on the French motorways in 40 degree temperatures, mine queued for a minute or so for a toll, then blasted away.
Within a mile, the KnockLink lit up like a Christmas tree, the oil temperature was climbing towards 120 degrees and the oil pressure fell to less than 1 bar.
I rolled it onto an aire, and the engine sounded like a bag of spanners. End of game.

Rebuild has just been done, it's still being run in, has cost me a fair bit, although less than it might have for the spec it now has, due to the kindness of Harvey Smith, and a small measure of luck sourcing bits myself.

Yeah notice the same - when it's really hot after driving for a while it's just not as responsive.

Does anyone else's scooby kick out a ridiculous amount of heat as well? Sitting in traffic with the window open after driving for a while, I can feel the engine heat flowing by the window!

Hence the heatsoak, yes.

I can now WATCH my inlet air temeperatures fall after fitting an ACT gauge from Harvey, as soon as the car satarts to move they are falling, at 50mph, they are lower than ambient.

My ppp'd sti does seem to hold back a little after sitting it traffic in these temps (over 40 deg C intake on the scanguage), but I'm happy at least it ramps back to protect the engine. The non ppp's cars don't!

Not noticed anything different as yet as I only bought the car last Saturday and it has been hot ever since LOL. Have tried the water spray a few times though.

Well the cold ish weather is back (north east anyway) and the scooby has come alive again. It's like a hose pipe ban but instead it's a boost ban :-)
