crap windscreen cover!!!
well thought i would share my experience of a stonechip dilema...
decided too take the car down the motorway and give a blast..just got on and caravan inffront shot a big stone which hit bottom of windscreen.seemed okay and then withing 5 mins 6 inches of crack appeared.got home and rang insurance"yer no problem.we get that booked in for you...2 weeks time"
ok i thought perhaps there busy.phonecall from the windscreen guys..."some good news and bad news...we have got your windscreen at depot but it has been damaged in transit so have book you in again"
another week and get a call"got your windscreen mate ,can i fit under cover tho...?"
"yer no probs" i say."come to my depot and do in the sheds"
"be there late morning" he says
now too me late morning is 11ish arf 11
arf 12 he turns up
takes old winscreen out..seems very professional etc..finishes at 2 oclock...great i think...just in time for finishing time
but no...got leave it for hour to set
i notice some ripples along the top of the windscreen rubber and question it
"no probs my mate it be ok trust me..the heat will flatten it out"
okay i thinks...after all i aint no window fitter
next dat arise to find the rubber looks like sonic the hedgehogs back
so i phone the guy on his moby and tell him
"ahh okay mate..im on holiday too day..have you got a heat gun?"
"no i reply...i have a hair dryer tho"
"ok mate " he says"what you wanna do is dont get it too hot and...."
"whoa whoa whoa " i say..."that aint my job"
so he say he will come back on the mon
bearing in mind i had it done on the tues i think this pretty crap
i take the car out fri too shop and jeez...sounds like im in a wind tunnel...theres different gaps at each side of windscreen
feaking annoyed i ring the head office and make a compalint
they tell me they will get a rectification fitter too ring me bofore end of day too sort
well thsat was fri....mon comes no phone call.i ring up and get told it in hand and i will be contactd shortly
so complain again and say"well too be honest it distracting my driving and i have children in car etc"
to this there is a silence and im told a techincian be out following day
guy turns up...very professional..looks at it and say "window not pushied all way too the top and the seals aint been done the best."
he then says he going order me a genuine subaru windscreen and seals and will ring when it in stock
so i accept that and prepared too wait
wash the car today and find the big blanking plate at bottom of windscreen wasnt even pushed in gromit wrong and is sticking up...oh and i found a spare screw in my passenger footwell from god knows where...i assume it when the first guy took the side pillars appart
so sorry it been a long post but thought i would share the pain in the *** a stone chip has caused and also there are some bloody incompotent people out there who get paid do a job and dont realy give a toss about your motor.as soon as the windscreen is sorted i am going put in an afficial complaint about there crap service

not the point if it was free totally agree with you djwrx there is alot of incompetent so called tradesmen out there ,like youv'e said i would write a letter of complaint to who ever the company was wanting to see the credentials of the guy that fitted it and if he cant sue them for incompetents ,these companys are obviously getting back handers from our insurance companys to send out so called profesional tradesmen to do a proper job of which they havn't.
Hope you get this sorted out but yet again another story of heartache feel for ya mate.

cheers mate...the worrying thing is they actualy have rectification vans that must go round sorting out the mess...the 2nd guy who came seemed pretty straight and upfront...he asked me if i knew who the guy who did it.when i told him the guy was local cos he had told me he seemed too know straight away and started shaking his head...he is obviuosly known

Feel for you i was sh1ttin my self going to autoglass, car was was only a year old. Pilkington glass windscreen exact spec as per nippon one, brand new genuine subaru seal and trim. They told me it would creek for first 24 hours. True to there word it did but air and water tight one and a half year on. That was autoglass in glasgow so can recomend. I think you would get a better job taking it to the fitting centre, as their boss would be on hand if they bodged it. Hope you get it sorted.

update today......
chap came too fit new one
brand new pilkington glass subaru windscreen and seals
verdict....spot on...didnt rush everything looks great.said all he does is rectifications so that quite worrying knowing they need someone too put work right.
apparenty the chap who fitted first time will lose 4 jobs worth of bonus after he makes his report.said it hadnt been seated right and needed pushing in etc
happy bunny now lol
