Splines fit, as does the fit to the steering column cowl, but you need to make sure that the new wheel comes with the "clock spinner" and you MAY have to mod the airbag wiring plug. Not hard though

Do a search on here for fitting guide, but DO disconnect battery for half an hour BEFORE disconnecting airbag, and then, when RE-connected, DO turn key first time from OUTside the car

Oh.........and once the steering column nut is undone, screw it back on three or four turns BEFORE starting to pull the wheel off, so your face doesn't get a nasty surprise when the wheel suddenly comes free, as they do

Dont.

The airbags in Classics and New Age cars are different (size, impact required to activate etc, characteristics etc). Just because it fits, doesnt mean itll work how you need when you need it.

I've got one in my classic. TBH, the impact needed to make one activate is set by the CAR electronics, NOT the wheel. Go for it.

It physically fits, as Jeff says, and many have fitted later SRS wheels. The airbags physical characteristics differ though (even if its dimensions are similar).

The fact that people have New Age airbag wheels fitted to Classics does not mean that theyre fit and safe.

In answer to your question, I am right.

LOL, no I am.

It's the car's sensors and electronics that set off an airbag, NOT the bag itself. THAT is just an explosive device behind an infatable bag.

The Momo wheel from a 2001 Bugeye WRX is *huge*, more like a bus steering wheel IMHO. The Bug STi wheel is much Smaller

Think what GC8 is getting at is the deployment size of the bag. Might be bigger than standard,
so what would normally be a correct sized air bag (the original classic shape for arguments sake) that stops a certain distance from the boss once deployed, would be safe.
Compared to a different one (new age shape) might deploy 2 inches further.
And given that seat belt limiters are fitted in new shapes, and different one on classics might mean you get your face rearranged by said "new airbag"

Yes Jeff, but the electronics fire in different circumstances, because the restraint system is different. Its a mistake to think that because the wheel/bag physically fits and because the wires connect, thats its all the same.

You know that the New Age body is massively stronger, so why presume that the SRS system is 'the same'?

thanks for all help and opinions i think i mmight just fit the steering wheel and leave the airbag disconnected then theres no confusion on when/if it will go of and if its the right distance away

Im not sure about that. I think that something is better than nothing, even if the bag doesnt really match the system firing it...

But I'm not presuming..........I am simply stating that it's the car's electronics that will fire the airbag and will STILL do so within the correct parameters.

I'll eat my airbag if I'm wrong............probably REALLY
