Hi all, signed up to the site to learn more about imprezas tbh, currently own a Citroen c2 hdi and have been looking at maybe a 1.8 impreza non turbo because of insurance. Is there anything i should look for in one of these and anyone know of some for sale so i can get an idea on prices etc?

welcome to the club mate , on your search try to get the best example of the car that you can (service history etc etc ) and dont go rushing into buying one, as for cars for sale have a look at the for sale section in our forum.

Welcome. Impreza's are considered very reliable as standard, so look out for the same things as any car, i.e. genuine mileage, history, condition etc. Look at autotrader or pistonheads or on here. Search for 'sport' on autotrader, prices range from less than a 1k to 8k for 07

just wait till yr insurance premium go down then get one as any impreza that is not turbo will just be like yr run of the mill evreyday car

fair comment, what sort of age would be reasonable for a standard 2.0l turbo then for insurance?

I'm not in the know of what Insurance premiums cost for young drivers, but I seem to think the consensus is that you will struggle to insure an impreza if your under 25. Have a look in the Insurance section https://www.scoobynet.com/insurance-19/ for some ideas of what people are up against and examples of costs etc.
Like said above, leave the non turbos alone, no point at all for a pucka subaru enthusiast.

I must have been an exception then.
@ 21 was paying £2500 fully comp on a 95 WRX
@ 22 was paying £1750 fully comp on a 99 UK Turbo
The WRX was 2 months after passing my test, the UK Turbo 9 months. 0 no claims, I just looked hard and long

thanks for the advice all, my plan was to get a slightly older 2l turbo and spend some time during weekends etc overhauling the car and engine etc, i am currently on an admiral multicar policy and have been quoted around £1100 full comp to insure myself on a nissan 200sx 2l turbo so i would have thought it wouldnt be as bad for the impreza as dad would want to drive it as well

hey mate
Im just 25 and just got uk turbo 2000 after 2 years of wishing my sport was a turbo, I have no no claims and my insurance is only 780 poundish with city insurance, thats a bargain in my eyes coz i was paying that the year previous for the sport, Let me tell you the sport maybe a good stong reliable car but its nothing lke a turbo version!

after looking into it, turns out that the company i am currently with will not insure me on a 2l turbo however they have quoted £1300 a year fully comp for a 2.0l sport so i think i know what i will be looking for now

the sport is a slug; it's an old car with very little power, a cr@ppy chassis but great mechanical grip you won't even begin to use with so little power. Get yourself a hot hatch until you can afford a blown version
