Boot Lock seized on hawkeye
hey,
when i bought my car back in november my boot lock worked fine and the key worked. few months on and the boot wont open with the key, just the lever in the cockpit works now.
The key will go in and out fine but it wont turn, anybody got any ideas what could be wrong with it or has anybody had this problem as well?
If the lock is foooked is it possible to get a lock of subaru that will suit my original key or am i gonna have to have 2 different keys
thanks

Does the boot release by the drivers seat work? If so open the boot and spray some WD40 in and put the key in and GENTLY rock the key side to side to work the WD40 in.

yea the release works, have tried the wd40 in there and it didnt do much, might try it again 2moro night.

Forget WD40, as if it does free it up and will only go again..... pop down your local garage and ask them to use a grease gun and pump some grease in to the lock. It will push the water out and should get the lock working again. Quite a common problem on the older key/lock type petrol caps on cars, and this was the remedy.
I had this happen on an Escort Cossie once and had to smash the cap off..... I was informed of the method above afterwards! lol

its not the filler cap, its the boot lock! i cant see how pumping it full of grease wud help to be honest, it will just cover the key in grease everytime and make a mess in my pocket, not really practical.
but thanks for the suggestion

Might just be the boot shuts tight and puts enough pressure on the lock to make it hard to turn the key, my 03 STi was like this. Try pressing down on the top of boot lid to release the pressure as you use the key.

Mine is exactly the same. It wont work with boot open either, I put in half a tin of WD40 and a good bit of Duck oil, still no joy. I am taking it to the stealers 3 weeks before end of warranty for a MOT got a few thing that I want fixed.

Dealers (decent ones) will peform this operation at each service anyhow.

you aint knocked the lever on the latch itself have u, lookin at the latch there is a small metal lever on the right i think try moving this up or down as that stops the key from been used.

STOP- HOLD EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!
i had this problem about 2 months ago, exactly the same. no movement whatsoever of the key in the lock. its the teeth in the lock are basically out of sync. dont ask me how but the same happened with mine. i take it it was a little iffy first, continued to work then stopped altogether?
i considered taking lock off and getting someone to recondition it as there is a place not far from me that does this, BUT, there is a much simpler and cheaper option.
just order a new lock and key for the boot direct from subaru. this means you will have another key just for your boot but it only costs about £15!!!!! with 2 keys as well.

i had this problem a few years back, was relying on the in car boot release then one day i pulled the release and the car mat held it up all day which stretched the cable so i couldn,t get in at. took it to subaru dealer and it was fixed in 5 minutes both the cable adjusted and the lock.

i will probably have to do what you done, but i was trying to avoid getting the second key but i might have no choice.
could subaru not give me a lock that will fit my key? or would that cost a fortune?

I have freed a seized lock with washing up liquid in the past.A locksmith suggested it to me and it worked. Soak the key in Fairy (or whatever the missus uses) submerge in in the lock several times, the same way as suggested with WD40.

i actually noticed that on the tunnel run on sunday that you used a different key to open your boot and meant to ask you about it.

yes it would cost a fortune, what they would have to do would be change ALL the locks then program the key in to your immobiliser as well. thats what subaru told me anyway! i am sure they said around £500 cant really remember tbh, i think the trauma caused me to block it out
think i will try the wd40 or a bit of grease in there or something cause i havent really tried that hard.
if that dont work its a knew lock for me 1

What I tend to do with these, is remove the lock assy from the boot and drop it in a tub of boiling hot water, partly most of the crap in there is road salt & corrosion which can eassily be dissolved with hot water.
this will free some of it off then what you do is spray it with wd40 or any good penetrating oil and work the key in and out, Take note of the mechanisms bobbing up and down, if they dont move then use a small pin or seal pick and gently push them and keep working the key in and out. Eventually it will become free then grease it with the likes of wurth HHS2000 its like a sticky grease once set

There's also a lock inside the boot an can be opened buy climbing in through the center section of the back seats , an turning the metal bit on the lock,
Take a tourch an someone to help pull you back out .
