Classics more expensive than bugeye. Why?
My mate sold his 01 remapped bugeye on saturday for 4 grand.
70k, brembos, brand new innovit alloys, 280/300 mapped by andy forrest. The car wanted for nothing yet I'm on the verge of going to look at a remapped classic which is up for 4500 albeit slightly more modded??
I've been looking on Pistonheads at WRX's and facelift classics and it seems the prices of WRX'x are dipping below classics now.
Am I daft for going to look at an older car with more miles or are the classics starting to become exactly what their name suggests?

It seems like as time goes on the classics that had been ragged and modded from Halfords are getting broken and its leaving a slightly better stock.
Bugeyes are in the bracket that classics used to be in a coupe of years ago and it does look like the prices are suffering due to it.
Market dictates.....

Its only when you look at what you can get for 4g that you really see what a bargin it was!!
Yes there are better built cars out there for that money but definately not one quicker or equally bullitproof. If there is, let me know and I'll let him know!

Some really tasty stuff on here. Low miles and all Jap Spec. Equally the prices are just as tasty due to the ****e exchange rates.

Really, come on, what a hideous pile of smelly stuff ... the beginning of the end for Subaru started with this abortion.

I'm told it's a S302 or something like that, means less than nothing to me I'm afraid - it's just a really, really, really ugly car .... so, I use it to illustrate the point that bugeyes are amazingly ugly.

You're right ... it's not a Civic Oil Burner - the Civic looks 100 times better.

As an ex S202 owner they are a very good car, fast, raw and the handling is exceptional and rare as hens teeth.

I thought the S202 piccie and a few choice comments would get you out
Do you know something really bad? Those great triangular exhaust outlets do nothing (on the diesel at least) as the exhaust outlets bend to the floor before they reach the rear bumper!!

I don't think that the new shape Civic is exactly a design classic either Pete, is looks like a wedge of cheese, the only really redeeming feature are the triangular exhaust outlets. It may be a good car but my comments about the Civic could also be applied to yours about the Bugeye ie not to my/your taste but nonetheless a good car.

That remapped bug eye definately seemed a bit of a bargain and they are probably a better car as such, but the classics are getting on to be real classics and as someone said the sh1tty ones modded by halfords are thankfully dying out and the ones in good nick are getting more scarce and this pushes the price up. Worth Paying if you know your getting a good classic I would say,

I knew about the triangular outlets being a bumper trim as when I test drove one I had a look and they were blanked off, talk about a waste of a design feature.
Give a car a good design feature and then fail to use it, perhaps they were afraid about it being sooted/oiled up!

Imagine trying to line up the exhaust outlets in those triangles?
Honda make some cracking cars .... but even their tolerances wouldn't allow such a thing on a production car

The irony of course is I reckon the Bug is possibly the best Scoob out there. Much as I love my classic the bug did improve it in many areas (just not looks ) and was built at a time when Subaru could still build reliable cars before the hype and marketing men got hold of things.

I wanted a classic originally when i first started looking but I realised as per original poster you get more for your cash with a Bug and with the right mods they can look good
I'm quite chuffed with the looks of mine now although a classic is prettier I dont regret the bug decison
they grow on you (like mould )
