Default what would you choose - RB5, STi v5/6 or STi buyeye?

Really not happy with my v2, wana get a face lift version really, but im thinking about the above cars to replace it with, just cant decide what...

RB5 - limited run, facelift looks (esp if you get a WR one), uk car, love the colour also.

STi v5/6 - facelift looks on tap, quick out the box and it's an sti!!

Bugeye sti - even newer looks, 'ugly' but i love um, have to be a prodrive one, 6 speed? and a better engine than the classic?

any opinons would be great

Bug STi (all 6 speed by the way) is the bargain performance car of the lot when tweaked

The bugeye is pretty unloved and mine's now 8 years old...... My mistake was buying a WRX and trying to turn it into an STi LOL

RB5 all the way! Although I'd easily have a v5/6 sti and I'm a fan of the bugeyes too

Depends what you want from it.

If your going to keep it for a while and not bothered about modding, I'd go for the RB5 as it should hold its value more.

If you like the looks of the classic over the bugeye, and its a weekend toy, then go for the classic.

If its reliability and more of an everyday driver, I'd go for the bugeye.

Ive owned a few classics, a P1 and a JDM bug STi.

Loved the P1 but nnot really an everyday car, always scared it would blow up. The bug is a better all rounder, especially with 4 doors. I hated getting out to let folk it the back

RB5 for me - standard on outside but well modded engine etc so that it's capable of beating the pesky hot hatches of 2010

it's a weekend toy by the way, just thinking you can get a sti classic for 5k, or a not so good RB5 for the same, or a grand or so more for a bugeye, man i havent a clue!!

I've had my bugeye STI for over eight years, BUT for a weekend toy I'd aim for a Type-R preferably in black....

Yes the bug can easily do over 400 bhp, but I still love the look of the two door shell. And no I'm not selling mine to get one...

If it's a weekend toy you want then don't waste your money on an RB5. STi of some description would be my choice

Agreed, I would go for the quickest out the box, the v5/6 STI, in the RB5 86F colour

A V5/6 STi is only 36hp more than the 240hp version of the RB5 ... doubt there would be much in it

Type R, best looking classic is the 2 door.

Buy one with the engine gone and get it rebuilt or if you buy one which has recently had one done make sure its by someone reputable like APi.

I wouldn't buy one unless the engine had been rebuilt properly, hear too many stories of them going bang !

Mines like a go kart!

My mate had an RB5. Lovely car, but it's not an STI. Also, my wallet would tell me to stay away from the bug for worries of the road tax band (or can that issue be avoided by going JDM?).

I'd go for Classic STI.

Bugeye STi, if you don't do lots of miles go for JDM (the gearing is a bit short for long journeys). I had a classic and now have JDM bug (4 years) and its a far nicer car (and better base to mod from).

I don't think they look bad as long as you junk the original headlights. If you get bored you can easily facelift it to a blobeye or even a hawkeye

deffo bug sti i have a uk prodrive with ppp.... pro's 6 speed, avcs, vf35 ect..
easy to get to 350bhp ect.. the only down side's rear shocks will fail at some point & newage cars are heavy so will need 350bhp to feel like a 280bhp sti 5/6
but ya got to love the bug quick teaser pic

if it's strictly a toy, then go for a type r, need to budget to do the engine or budget to buy one that's been done
if it's not just a toy then bugeye jdm for sure imo..........

Got to be a classic STI over bug STI any day of the week.... especially if you like driving.

Like some one else said get a 2 door V5/6 type R 2 door STI in RB colour.

I'll see your bug teaser and raise you:

Now that is almost ****.

the roadtax is only £245 quid for the year right upto march 2006 uk or jdm so don,t let that put you of

Be careful of when the JDMs were imported as if after the Horror Date in 2006 they'll be subject to the max Car Tax of £400+ (not sure if the classic JDMs get caught up in that too?).

Used to have this!

But now have this!

Quite a easy choice if you ask me!

I also fitted the PPP to the Rb5 and believe me the type r is in a league of it's own!!!
