insurance discount on tracking devices
#1
I thought that insurers usually offered discounts if you fit tracking devices, but I've been told by Direct Line that they don't unless they specify you have to have it.
Anyone else been given discount with Direct Line?

I'm with Direct Line and had a Navtrak Proactive system fitted last Saturday. I have rung DL and told them about this, but they didn't offer any refunds etc.
I've used their online quotation system and if I took a new policy out with them at my current address, a tracking device is required!
Infuriating! I may well be looking to change insurers at the next renewal date.
Martin.

Rebecca,
I'm also with Direct Line. No discount offered just told "if you want us to insure you then you have to have an approved tracker system fitted".
So I fitted one - having said that they still gave me a very good quote though!

Me and the Enemy are getting a brand new Yaris SR. We are going to put a NavTrack on it, but the insurance company (Diamond cos my fiance is 20 and has no ncd) said that the factory immobiliser is enough to satisfy their requirements. It makes no difference that we are fitting NavTrack.
It does to me though if some ****** nicks the car and i can catch them and teach them thats its a bad idea ;-)

Be aware - Privilege told me no tracker no cheap quote, got Tracker Retrieve fitted, phoned them and they said you need the next one up (Monitor) but they let me have the policy anyway.

Yep, dl insurance, no tracker, no theft cover. I have just phoned for a quote for some mod's, s/steel magnex and a filter, £92 til november which I thought seemed ok. Think they do their mods by %bhp increase which gives good scope on a scooby.

We looked a getting a tracker fitted, checked with our previous
insurer how much discount? £10, yep thats right £10, so what you're telling me is that for a £350 security device and £100 per year, all I'll get is £10 discount "Look into my eye!!"
Couldn't believe it

Now that just confuses me even more ... so it looks like that if I was to try and insure with Direct Line for the first time, they'd say I HAVE to have a tracker fitted ... and then presumably offer me a discount ... but because I have a current policy with them and may have a tracker fitted ... no discount.
Can someone explain the logic there
I also spoke to NavTrack because their insurance page and so does Tracker's come to think of it ... both imply that all the insurance companies listed give discounts if you fit a tracking device. When I suggested to NavTrack that their webpage is misleading and suggested that they changed it to reflect the fact that not all insurance companies will automatically give a discount unless it's mandatory, I was told that their lawyer said it was ok and basically tough ah! whatever happened to good old customer service
