Hello guys and girls.

As some of you know I sold my UK300 the other month. The car was a great car and the modding was frustrating but yet very rewarding, and I would love to do it all again, however this time on a budget .

Ive sold the Uk300 as we are getting a new Renault grand Scenic in a few months. That aside the proceeds from our current other two cars (Citreon Xsara Picasso HDI and Fiesta 1.25) should fund the purchase of my Scoob (not modding just purchase price).

Book price of the:
Citreon - £1500 - £2000
Fiesta - £800 ish.

What can I buy for this that will give me the enjoyment I had with a 330+bhp UK300. Im not fussed to much about which car although I have owned 3 newage cars, and not one Classic! However I also want to do the modding on a budget too. I think I would prefer a Newage but realise that most are out of my price range bar thrashed, dented and some wagons.

Hi mate, having dealt in buying and selling these cars in recent past, personally I would say you can get a good Classic (including decent spec facelift) if you shop carefully but leave the newage alone at that money would be my thoughts.

Just to add, having been in the trade for a while I would consider Cat 'D' cars where the exact history is known as some of the best bargains around!
Also try putting an advert in Free Ads paper for Scooby wanted, cash waiting for right car, when you are ready, you might be pleasantly surprised what offers a bad economy brings you mate, I was!!

Thanks Jeff, appeciate the advice.

I have the cash to buy a car now but I thought I might aswell try and get a car on a budget for a change, plus I dont fancy insuring four vehicles when we only need two. So selling both the Picasso and Fiesta are first on the agenda once the new Renault arrives.

So a classic looks like the favourable choice then. Is there any advice on buying a classic bar the obvious (obvious being condition) as I have never owned one, and I hear that there is issues with the old classic with modding (ecu) and some have the TD04 and some have the TD05.

I would prefer a more modern car if this helps, but im willing to sacraffice age for ease of modification if this make sense

its a pity the esl live board is not released yet for the facelift cars as this would open up a lot more options for cost effective mods,

other then that what about a cheap preface lift classic saloon, easy to mod with a esl board a set of 440s 3 bar map sensor and front mount would see you with 320+bhp with minimum out lay and would be a quick car to boot, by the way the above mods are what i have and will be fitted as soon as i can get round to it.

Pulsar GTiR, GTO twin turbo, remapped UK '99 classic, old duffer of an Evo 4.

If you've got £2500 cash in your hand, I'd be phoning/emailing owners with cars up for sale at around the £3200 mark. As above, you'd be surprised what a bag of readies can buy these days.

Thanks for the advice and car suggestions. Pulsar just isnt my type of car. I was looking at GTO's and Supra's yesterday. Also considering a FTO GPX with Turbo conversion.... just a thought. Im not fussed on running costs as it wont get used that much, however I dont want a high maintanence motor, like my Renault Alpine .

Ive emailed Andrew for some ideas. I dont know why he didnt spring to mind especially when im in contact with him weekly at the moment . Im sure he'll halp me or even push me towards some vehicles that are up for sale.
