Default Carbon Fibre Bonnet Repair / Restore???

Hello All

i have had my carbon fibre bonnet for my bugeye for around 5yrs. After washing the car i realised the carbon fibre bonnet looks as though it needs "fixing". There are random faded spots, peeling all around the edges and cracks at the front (parallell to the catch). I have tried to do my research on it and have concluded that carbonfibre itself cannot be repaired but the coating/layer above it can be. However i am still unsure.

Can this be re-resined, relacquered or whatever the terminlology is? if not then how about my last resort which is to get it sprayed over.? Any help would be much appreciated. i have included links to it. Thanks again

To put it bluntly for you....its F*CKED really mate, the faded parts are just the top coat thats lifted but just to repair them it would take hours and hours to flat it all back, done it once and never agsin, but the cracks are not repairable,i would either bin it or if you have the time sand it all down with something like 240 grit paper,2 k prime it and paint it.

Someone else said the same thing...doesnt lessen the pain though
(The front cracks are my fault cos there was a problem with the catch/latch bout a year ago, the bonnet wouldnt shut and instead of taking it to the garage i slammed it hard a few times)

i really dont mind getting it painted as the novelty of the carbonfibre wore off years ago. What are the chances of it being sanded and painted without any hassle in the future? Is it like sanding and painting fibre glass or plastic?

Vinyl wrapping simply means covering it with vinyl sign writing material.....just like Blue Peter's Sticky Black Plastic LOL

My Carbon bonnet is colour coded.....it's mostly blue with some carbon showing Maybe yours could be sanded and sprayed but leaving some carbon bits showing which have not degraded !

cant you get a good sprayer to nip it back and spray so the carbon is still visible through the paint like the F40 ferrari,,,,, that or spray it and forget about it

Soda blasting should remove the top coat quickly and reduce any further prepwork before painting to just a simple wash down.
