Default M12 x 35mm long with a pitch of 1.75mm - WHERE?!

Hi everyone

In desperate need of some of these bolts for my STI front Callipers.
Bought some brakes from Godspeed but they didn't come with them - anyone know of 'highstreet' type shops in the Leeds area which sell them?

Need to buy them today as fitting tomorrow.

Cheeeeeeeers!!!

M12x 1.75 is a widely used tap size (well at Corus in Scunnt it certainly is), so I'd be suprised if you couldn't find any M12's floating about in a decent hardware shop, or even somewhere like B&Q.

May be longer, but you can cut them down to 35mm if necessary with any decent hacksaw and a bastard or 2nd cut file (is 35mm the thread depth not inluding the head of the bolt or does it include the head?).

According to this line (https://www.scoobynet.com/showpost.p...3&postcount=16), the thread is 37mm and the hex head is 8mm - so I would assume I need 35mm or 37mm M12 bolts.

I have found some at Screwfix - would these do : http://www.screwfix.com/prods/66205/...5mm-Pack-of-10

Depends on the material properties of what is as standard and the replacements if that makes sense. Use inferior material and they may distort or shear under use.

I'd personally find an engineering firm in the yellow pages and see what they say. When it comes to brakes, I'm always proper ****, even in a 1.1 Peugeot

Just spoke to a good engineering company - any high tensile bolt should be able to withstand the pressure exerted. Subaru are closed now, they want £11.02 per bolt for OEM. Will probably use these til I can get the originals ordered 'just in case' !!

Cheers

Not long since done the properties of various metals on my apprenticeship. you want a bolt that is high in Tensile strength so that it doesn't shear or give way under high pressure. That and a material which won't extend beyond its yeild or ultimate strength.

If you're sad like me, you'll find this interesting re. Tensile strengths http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tensile_strength

Hi Lee
I PM'd you first thing this morning so hopefully early enough to get some , as per my PM , if you get socket caps ( allen key bolts ) they will have a 12.9 strenth grade which will be fine for these , you will get these easily enough from any bolt suppliers local to you for about a £1 each , I dont have any here the right size to suit the STi brembo's I sent you
Cheers Ian

Hi Ian

Sadly nowhere local has the allen key bolts you mentioned. I went to screwfix, a local engineers, a couple of hardware stores etc and they just don't stock them in these sizes (max M8). So I've had to go for some hex bolts M12 x 35mm and M12 x 40mm (will see which work the best and can hack the 40mm down if required til mid week) til I can order some on Monday from Subaru. I guess they'll be pulling my pants down twice in one week

I also had a panic over the SS Goodridge hoses I have presently installed on the 4 pots - but luckily the Subaru 4 pot and the Factory brembos have the same fitting line - so hope these are true STI brembos else it'll be £80 on new hoses too.

No they wont do, stainless is weaker, you want minimum grade 8.8

you sure there not 1.25mm pitch?

Yes your hoses you have fitted now will fit the calipers , you dont need to change them.

I can't believe that no one local to you had bolts , I live in a fairly small town , and we have 4 places that do bolts ect , and these bolts are a standard thread bolt , if I had more available tiime yesterday I would have driven out to them and got some , but I had so much work to do , and orders to prepare to send out I couldn't get out ,

Cheers Ian

The subaru 4 pot calipers have a pitch of 1.25mm , the brembo calipers have a pitch of 1.75mm , which is the standard M12 mm bolt pitch

Just for reference for people in this position in the future - the STI Brembo bolts are actuallyM12 x 35mm x 1.5 - NOT 1.75.

Also be very cautious when using new bolts as the Brembo thread is straight in the aluminium and can easily be broken,

whoops dropped a b0llock here didn't I , The Mitsubishi front brembo's have a pitch of 1.75mm , dont know what confused me there as I am always spot on , please accept my apologies.

The rear brembo calipers have a standard pitch on the threads , M10 x 1.5mm , and the fronts have a fine pitch of indeed 1.5 not the standard 1.75mm thread , its the Mit EVO that has a standard thread pitch of 1.75.

Lee I'll reply to your PM now

Cheers Ian
