I thought it was I, as in STI?

Import?

I remember the first few I seen over here had that on the badge.

Maybe it is I for Impreza?

When I lived in Japan, I was told by a Suby dealer that each brand got it's own special edition. The Impreza got an "i", the Forestergot an "F", and the Legacy turbos got the L7 badge, which is actually an LT which is short for Legacy Turbo.

The "i" was available on all models of Impreza, not just the STi as most people think. The "i" actually has nothing to do with STi. It is a equipement package, kind of a "sports" or "limited" option.

If you look at used JDM Imprezas online, you can see stock NA models with the "i" badge.

I dont have ebay access at work, but I'm assuming its the "i" symbol on a grill badge.

It certainly isn't for "import" and I dont think it has anything to do with STI either.

My 93 WRX has this badge as standard (not carbon fibre). It was made in Japan and sold in Japan, so therefore it wouldn't be an import in that market.

Also, there wasn't such a thing as an STI impreza when my car was made, so why would the association be made with STI?

I've always thought it looked like an S as well anyway.

I'm sure it's a 'I' for impreza as they have a 'F' version for Forrester too
