blob eye wrx. i would like to get 300bhp mark
hi all
as above 05 wrx totally standard 43k miles, would like some tuning options i would like to get to the 300bhp mark! would the car be reliable at this sort of power as an everyday driver? what would have to be acheived tuning wise, do any of you have 300bhp wrx's
i have seen many at around 270-280 but not yet 300?
thanks in advance

Take no notice of this . You will need a turbo change to get over 280bhp as far as Im aware.

from experience,
full decat including up pipe (no cheap ebay crap up-pipe)
pink sti injectors
tdo5 16g converted to front entry
k&n panel filter
fuel pump
open source remap,
optional,
inner wing induction kit
sti top mount intercooler.
with the above you should see minimum 300/300

Think this must be one of the most popular topics on here, needs to be made a sticky of,as it does seem a very common question, but no doubt it will still be asked, Tony Burns put a good reply to this yesterday I think,if you can find it somewhere ?good luck anyway mate.

Standard TD04 turbo won't realistically get you to 300 or not for long at any rate.
No real need for sti topmount at this level but no harm.
Need uprated walbro fuel pump
Sti pink injectors
Stainless decat exhaust system (or with 100 cell sportcat downpipe)
VF35 turbo from Sti or similar VF34 will bolt straight on. Other similar VF turbos also worth considering.
Remap to early 300's bhp no probs.
.....then better brakes.

Mines running 280+ and is great as an everyday driver, if you want 300BHP+ in a WRX that's when it starts to get expensive.
This will give you a good idea of what is involved.

I ticked everything off the list here

Find the bit for 05 WRX.
After a remap from Andy I got 334bhp/335lbft on my 05 wrx wagon with 100 cell sports cat.

panel filter
fuel pump
up pipe decat
down pipe decat
ecutek remap will see you at 275-290 and happily tick away anythin over will require turbo somethin like a vf35 and pink injectors will see 320 with ease

Standard TD04 is disappointing in it's lack of puff. VF35 or similar type turbo and Sti pinkies will put a real smile on your face. If I could start from scratch I would get an Sti preferably a twin scroll Jap one, but I have this set up on a UK car and it is pretty quick. You can always go front mount and bigger turbo at a later date. Bear in mind crap brakes will slow you down!

You won't go far wrong following Duncan's advice.

... or not.
My advice is to get the best from the std turbo before deciding whether you actually want or need the extra power...
The std turbo can get to 290 max - although had one of my customers cars on the dyno on sunday and it made 295 still on the td04. Very unusual though - normally 280-290 with full decat.
The difference in driveability between the 220 std and 280 (ish) is HUGE and may well be enough for the time being. There really is a night and day difference and in most cases is plenty enough to humble sti drivers.
To get to that level I would say a good decat exhaust, panel air filter, fuel pump (def recommended) and a small adjustment to the wastegate arm (or 3 port boost solenoid) - all brought together by running on good fuel (vpower).
Hope that helps.

Oh dear - as a WRX owner in a similar positon I was quite interested in this post - but actually it hasn't proved very helpful...I can't understand why I would need upgrades and then PPP and a remap - why not just have a re-map

"a small adjustment to the wastegate arm (or 3 port boost solenoid)" something i need Dunc??
I have recently gone down the route you are looking at now mate and have found it really quite easy as long as you are willing to be patient.
I got my 03 WRX and wanted more straight away after owning an MR2 Turbo, found scooby net and a good shop bot called Dave Beck and got nearly everything off of here.
100 cell Prodrive Sports cat plus de cat up-pipe £90 from SN member
Prodrive rear box and center section - one crate of Fosters (best deal i have found in years) from SN member
SPT air filter £60- ebay
fitting exhaust £170 iirc
plugs colder grade-£36 group buy on SN
remap £350 from Duncan
so just over £700 and the difference the remap made was brilliant you wont regret it

Apologies to all on here if the little outburst above has taken something away from the post.
