In their defence ... my rear discs are original, as are the handbrake shoes ... and that's 10 years and 99,000 miles.
The shoes don't have to do anything except stop the car rolling ... the rear brake pads last 85,000 miles in my experience, the discs maybe 160,000?
My fronts lasted 65,000 miles or thereabouts.
There is no need for them to be worn much before this if driven with sympathy, care and experience.
Would like to see the photo's mind you!

The adjustment screw behind the rubber gromet was seized solid so when i tried to pull off the disc the complete shoe assembly wanted to come with it,and there is a small lip around rear of disc that was preventing this easy procedure, think the shoes had never been changed before in a long time.

If you loosen the shoe adjuster around the back of the backplate the discs would have come off no problem , I have never failed to get a pair of discs off damaging any parts.
The handbrake shoes only have a few mm's of material new , which makes people think they have worn down.
On the hub face , make sure you clean them up before fitting the new discs or they will not run true and you will get shaking through the steering wheel with all that rust on them
Cheers Ian

when you see the picture of condition of old shoes then you'll realise why.

No sometimes the disc will come straight off , if the discs have a lip stopping them coming off you will have to loosen them off , the lip generally isn't wear , but where rust has formed inside , where the shoes run in the disc , it gets cleaned off in use , but either side of the shoes rusts
Hope this helps
