Default Reveiw of my new rear ARB

Its been a week now since I had a White-line 22mm rear anti roll bar fitted, To let you know the car is a 2006 Spec D with Prodrive springs on standard struts with a fast road geo set up, running 333/360. Well at first I was a little disappointed I had read on here how much of a good mod this was and how it feels like a new car now and so on and so on ! I couldnt feel any difference at all I tried a few corners and round abouts but nothing that I could say was an improvement. Anyway coming home from football late a couple a days ago I started to push the car hard into and out of the corners and the grip seemed to be unbelievable the corner speed was also incredible I felt so confident with the car. I still don't feel the car handles and differently but it has definitely increased corner speed which I suppose what its designed for

Put it on the hardest setting.

The DccD on your car is so good in auto unless you play with the diff you will feel the most benefit in reduced body roll, which is pretty much what your describing.

You should also do the links, the OEM ones move MUCH more freely. Solid Whiteline links will make your new ARB work much harder.

Yeah I'm on the middle setting at the moment, I'm paranoid of making the ride more uncomfortable than it already is The wife and I use the car as a work horse (kids and all that) so I don't want it to be to hard core, will changing to the stiff setting make the normal ride harsh I was told that my rear drop links where fine as their already solid

The ride won't be affected by stiffening the ARB as it only limits opposing roll from side to side. A 22mm bar definitely needs to be on the stiffest setting, and a good, fluid, progressive and smooth driver would benefit from a 24mm bar, or thicker. I have a 25mm on the wifes Octavia As for the links, the OE ones are plastic and can flex or snap under the higher loads the new ARB will create, hence the need for stronger steel or alloy ones.

05 Onwards Sti have steel type drop links(not the crap plastic) on the rears which are similar to some of the Whiteline uprated ones! You need Whiteline 'KLC32' as a upgrade which are fronts but are used on the rears!!

im hopeing to have a 22mm rear arb and uprated front and rear links fitted to my bug in the next week or two...reading this thread has made helped me opt for the stiffest setting.

im going to go to scoobyclinic for a fast road geo set up too

The 24mm bar on centre setting gives the same effect as the 22 on stiffest setting. If you are a smooth driver, you then have the option of an even stiffer setup to try. Worth some thought

I think I will stay with my 22mm bar set in the middle for a while as I'm thinking of adding some rear camber bolts soon and might then change to the hardest setting on the bar. When I had my Prodrive springs fitted the guy told me they were a waste of time but the new specialist I'm using now (who I have more confidence in) told me they are a good mod as there is no adjustment for the rear shocks and are well worth doing as for the drop links sounds like I'm wasting my money here as the standard ones look like metal to me and solid

OEM links are solid but are rose/ball jointed (call it what you like). The difference being you get 360dg movement allowing greater lateral movement in the arb and less resistance or indeed stability as I see it. The Whiteline links are bolted solid through the link and connections keeping the bar and linkage taut and making the bar work harder. Not to mention the links are about 1000% thicker and less likely to flex. I promise you, putting the bar on hard will be better if you use the car in auto DccD.

On the earlier WRX the middle setting is a good compromise, 22mm, and on my bug-eye STI the stiffer suspension suits the stiffest setting.

No earlier New-Age.... O.P. has a (Opps ) Spec D.... I thought it was a WRX ! !

Doh ! Having spotted that, I think the later cars are likely to have an up-rated bar compared to the 01/02 models.... so less improvement in comparison.

Grabs coat and runs....

I don't think I got the wrong one, I didn't want the 24mm as I always think there's a compromise with any mod! Its like taking with one hand and giving back a little with the other! If you know what I mean
To be honest I'm happy with what I have done its definitely increased corner speed and stability so theres no need for me to have gone larger, I just thought I might have FELT a change in the way it corners.
