Upto £1k - which brakes?
I am in decision paralysis and I guess posting on here will be even more confused shortly!
I have dcided to spend upto £1000 on my front brakes but can't decide what to but. My shortlist is currently;
1) Godspeed 335mm using current calipers
2) K -Sport 356mmm 8 pots (but looks like I would have to spend another £200 on better pads than the ones supplied in the kit)
3) Second hand gold Brembo's from STi (would probably have to buy discs and pads new)
Keen to hear your thoughts and experiences - what should I do?

I suppose you have to factor in some other things, mainly wheel size, as I doubt option 2 goes unders 17's. You also need to consider that with option 3, as the Brembo's are a bit fussy with wheels.
Number 1 is your best option, if you have 17's, and can also be your cheapest, as someone is selling a full Godspeed conversion in the for sale section.
I have gone for Gold Brembo's, but with my limited wheel choice, I wouldn't have done that again.
Not on your list, but AP's is what I should have got.

ive got k-sports on my classic, it was massive step up from the origional calipers which were 2 pots i think, and they were shocking, however i just kept the origional ksport pads, and will replace with pf's when they are done, for another step up.
after driving for a few months with occassional heavy braking, still feel a bit of fade at times - pedal is nice and firm with little travel
but ive no experience with brembos of the godspeeds so only really can compare to standard.
that post didnt reaaly help did it lol

Hi Spec look good but coming in over budget - I really don't want to spend more than £1k - otherwise I might as well start looking at buying a new car!

Godspeed's AP 4 pot setup, they are more than sufficient for road and track use
If not then for a cool 1k you can get the Prodrive Alcon kit, you wont get any change though (or maybe a penny )

I moved to 12 pots from the Godspeed conversion and for tooling around the lakes and the local roads there's not that much difference. Steve VRS tracked his car on them as well Get your callipers refurbed in your favourite colour wit the leftover pennies LOL

The Brembo setup with PF discs and pads works very well both on road and track.
Easily done for your budget.

Not quite but they are a close second , the Alcons are good , but only have a one piece disc , which is not as good as a 2 piece disc and bell , and the one piece Alcon discs are very expensive to replace , the dust sealing on the Alcons is also not as good as the new design AP's.
When the Alcons need reconditioning , the seals alone are £120 a set !!
They are very expensive to run , and up till now were expensive to buy
Cheers Ian
