Turbo engine conversion
Hi everyone, ime a newby so go ezi on me, right ive got a 1997 subaru impreza sport -non turbo-, and ime wanting to put a turbo lump in it, just not shure on how big of a job it is and is it just a matter of putting it straight in and connecting everything up or wud i have to get new loom and ecu ect, realy havnt a clue so as much detail as u can please.

It would be easier and probably cheaper to sell the sport and buy a turbo version. Yes you will need new loom, new ECU, new Fuel pump, uprated brakes, etc, etc. I also think the insurance company would have a fit well at least a tight one into your wallet.

When you can pick up a perfectly decent Impreza Turbo for £2500, it makes the conversion of a sport model a complete and utter waste of money. You'd be aswell ripping up hundreds of pounds and flushing them down the toilet.
There's only one reason that I can see why people would do this and its to declare an unmodified sport to the insurance companies, while actually driving around in something with twice the power.
I'm not suggesting that this is your intention, so the advice from the poster above is the best you will get

wud sell and get a turbo but only 21, and inshurence is sky hi, so thats why i was planning a conversion, but didnt relise how hard it was to do it, wats the best scooby to have for inshurence purpose, my sport is the full p1 replica, just not the power, reli want a turbo
As said above - if you intend to insure your converted Scoob properly - the money you will spend converting it and eventually insuring it, will be way more than insuring a Factory turbo Scoob....

A turbo conversion would boost your insurance up anyway, any mods will increase your insurance tbh, just start with a uk turbo with its grp 17 insurance, thats probably more than enough power for you anyway coming from a dog slow sport

I know its not what you want to hear, but honestly you have years and years ahead of you to do it properly. I was able to get decent insurance on 200 bhp at 23 and from then it just got cheaper each year. Get a few years no claims under your belt and you'll get insurance on what you want. Trust me, the time goes by much quicker than you think it will.
Think ure right rossyboy, might just map the engine i got and some other mods, i font no why its so expensive for a turbo cos my missis is 10 years older than me with 10 years no claims, and as a named driver on a turbo is just stupid, i had a golf v5 wich is 2.3 litre and was only 200 year, same as the vts i had but as soon as i try a turbo it tells me ill be skint
