Type-R STi VI Import

Hello all - I've just put money down to import my first scooby from Japan and thought it was a good time to join the community.

Here are some of the few pictures I have of her:

Needless to say - I can't wait for the test drive!

cluster 07 March 2010 11:59 AM

Thanks nie - will be counting down the weeks!

No too sure on the gauges though.

happydude303 07 March 2010 12:23 PM

they look fine and the car looks sweet, thats what my car looked like when i had it improted nice and clean then you hit the uk roads... i had to wait a month and a half to get mine through the sav and tax and reg but the wait was well worth it : >

cluster 07 March 2010 12:39 PM

I'm counting down the days :-)

Luckily, this was one of the early versions, built toward the end of 99 - which means she shouldn't need to go through the SVA tests :-)

GazTheHat 07 March 2010 02:20 PM

Phwoar! Looks nice!!

A bit of a misconception here, it may not require an sva test but it does require being converted to the sva standard before being MOT'd for legal road useage, though a nice looking car :)

Tony:)

beef-on-the-bone 07 March 2010 03:43 PM

looks a good 'un!!

they are the lamco guages i think, optional when new...........

cluster 07 March 2010 04:57 PM

Thanks for the responses guys. Didn't realise the gauges were an option - maybe I'll learn to love 'em. I'm getting the car through an agent, so all paper work, conversions and MOT will be carried out before I collect :-)

how do you find a car to import mate? you do it through a website or a dealership? and how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? :thumb:

cluster 07 March 2010 06:11 PM

I went through Andy at 200BHPCars.com - very nice guy, who has been importing Japanese cars for quite some time.

He works together with his contacts in Japan searching a number of the local auction listings. From my initial research, I was expecting to pay around £8500 (before shipping + fees), but Andy managed to find her for just under £7000 - bargain! :luxhello:

With shipping + fees (including UK registration, modifications, MOT and road tax), she should come in at just under £7500.

fair play mate.. wish i had that kinda money to spend on one haha, i can't really complain with mine though :)

is there a reason why you wanted to get it imported rather than buy an import that's already over here? would have thought you could have picked a minter with a few mods and probably for cheaper?

whats the mileage on your one then?

cluster 07 March 2010 06:21 PM

I wanted to find one as close to the original factory condition as possible - a lot of the UK Type-Rs that I've seen have been heavily modified (although I'm sure there are a few good examples floating around).

Mileage is around the 60k mark which, for her age, is pretty reasonable - driven on a regular basis but not too much :)

Looks great Cluster. Im thinking about getting a sti type r version 6 but want to know whats the differance between that and the v-limited. I believe the v in v-limited stands for version and has blue seat and roof vent, but thats all I can see.

SVA long gone! Rear fog light needed, adjust front head lights and away you go!

Looks nice, good luck :)

and get it re-mapped as soon as you get it for our fuel!

Fog light should be getting wired up when she arrives on our shores - converting the reverse light rather than having a hanging fog under the bumper.

She'll be mapped asap - v-power all the way! :)

I'm pretty sure that mechanically, its similar to a Type-RA, although someone may be able to correct me on that one.

Produced to celebrate rallying success - those were the days! :)

MK2VTR8VALVE 10 March 2010 08:03 AM

Looks a lovely motor mate. At least you know what you're getting with it being standard.
Any plans for her?

For the time being - I'll replace the orange indicators with clear ones and paint the wedges white. Maybe look into re-conditioning/replacing the seats - they look a little worn, but that may just be the photo.

Would also like to give the engine a clean/re-paint to make it look fresh and new :)

Can't wait to see her in the flesh! :luxhello:
