Hi folks!

I drove the 280bhp version today and was gobsmacked.....it's wicked alright and much faster than the UK version!

David Hendry was very helpful and I'm now trying to get as much info as possible to help me make my mind up.....

A three year warranty is offered through Motor Care, but this is nowhere near as good as the Subaru UK one. Servicing would need to be done by the likes of ScoobySport etc.....

I'd really like to hear from any of you who have gone down this road as well as those of you who decided against it.....what are the pitfalls......should I stick to the UK model...?

I really would be grateful for any advice on this matter!

Cheers

I hope its cheap, that all I'll say, Jap Imports are available in the uk for under £20k approx 1 year old, if you find an agent on fixed fee and want to wait for it to arrive from japn then you'll probably be able to import a MY01STI all in for around £19k OTR.

No particular experience of that warranty co, but generally that type are cheap and cheerful. Check the claim limits etc. Lots are quite low (like £1k) which isn't much use on a impreza if you have big problems. David Hendry aren't cheap, have you spoken to Litchfields about a UK STi with Powerstation 300bhp + upgrade (exhaust, air filter + unichip, very reasonable price), might be a better alternative...

DMB, I had a jap spec none bugeye WRX until last week when it was sold, currently seeking a skyline and driving a cheap runnaround (Rover 620Ti) in the meantime

If you do go for a Jap STI make sure you get the GL model (or if its a later one then the Prodrive edition is also available). Both the GL and the Prodrive had the front diff which makes a big to the handling.

Be careful you don't get ripped off. DH can be more expensive than most.

Warranty is a problem but as far as servicing goes my local Official Subaru Dealer is happy to oblige, just not on they're main premises.

Just to add... there is a post in general "I under a STi 7 for under £20k!" that someone started last week - I added details of 3 sti 7s I had found for under £20k.

www.ParkLaneUk.Net are also worth a quick look.

If you're seriously interested I'll be down around London/Woking for a few days over the next week or so.

E-mail me if you want to check the car out.

Cheers

KWS! It was your car that was pictured in that "special edition" scam a couple of weeks back! I knew I'd seen it somewhere before

DBM,also consider Euro import UK type.Keyring cars can deliver one of these brand new for approx 22k with a full 3 year pan european SUBARU warranty. As for David Hendry,(I bought my STi from him a few years ago) they are expensive but do give good after care and good price for your trade in.
