Default Driver Skills York

Anyone used these people?

Driver

Looks like a good whizz - they do skidpan, drifting and high performance driving courses just outside of York!

Am going to try them out!

I might have a look into that, never knew they did it at york. Looks good and lots of different types of training.

Good find.

I saw the Black BMW at PC World today - he did have a terrible understeer moment in the snow!! I assume it wasn't one of the trainers!

I am definitely going to do a skid pan session and if that goes well I will do the drifting session and the HPC session.

Didn't realise there was training in this area. Think I'll have a look myself.

I used them 2 years ago. Had a morning of track driving tuition (in my Scoob) and an afternoon of skid control. They make you do some alarming things (in their car) on the skid control. I enjoyed it and it got me started on track days that I have spent a fortune on since. Based at Elvington airfield.

There's a guy (cop ?) posting in "Northern" who is doing roadcraft, some of the WYIOC have used him in the past.

I did a day with Don Palmer in my Spec C a few years ago which was brilliant. I reduced my lap time by over 10% after two, 15 minute sessions in the car with him!

This is much cheaper and much closer! Let's see how they do.

Funnily enough Trout, I looked at this site before. Since getting the 370Z, I fancied doing a bit of skid pad training.

Wanting to do it in the spring. If you book up with them, post it up, let me know your thoughts about it.

Trout, what are you actually after? roadcraft, skid experience, and track training as discussed above are quite different things.

I am not sure what is actually behind your question.

I appreciate that roadcraft, skid experience and track training are totally different things and I believe I know what I am after.

I want to develop skills in on-limit/beyond-limit driving. I also see this contributing to my overall trackday/driving experience and to give me some tools that will help me out if it all goes a bit Pete Tong.

Of course they are different disciplines - but to my mind all facets of limit driving.

Finally got around to trying these guys out. I did two half day sessions which were 'Skid Pan' and Drifting.

In reality they were set on the same course and as it was Elvington it wasn't really that slippy. The surface was watered and the cars were set up with overinflated narrow rear tyres to make them easy to move around.

It was a good day out - I really learned and tested some sideways driving skills - however I probably only had 30-35 mins wheeltime in each half day session - I would have preferred more.

My trainer for both sessions was Andy McKenna who runs Ice Driver and is a very talented driver and trainer!

Cars were BMW 118tis.
