A few surprising results from the EVO test:
New shape impreza was slower round the dry handling circuit that the Clio 172
Less lateral G than Clio 172, Toyota Celica 190 & Ford Puma
Time exposed to danger (overtaking an artic at 45 mph) - same as a BMW X5 & GTI 6 & slower than Clio 172, Toyota Celica 190
0-100 Slower than Clio 172 and RenaultSport Clio V6
RenaultSport Clio V6 performed quite well all round.
Rich.

Have you followed/been followed by an X5 on the road? Not terribly slow (straight line at least)

A quote from the page:Nürburgring, June 30 2000
This is my 18th lap on the track.
A Porsche 911 in front. Starting on stone cold Pilot Race tires, I take it rather easy at first...
Note how the Porsche almost crash into the green Subaru Impreza, trying to overtake before the S-curve at Hocheichen.
Laptime is approx. 9 minutes.
----
Now what I want to know is, do we know who the impreza in question is...

Clio V6 is as different from normal Clio as Subaru WRC is from standard car (actually at least the WRC has the engine in the sane place!)
Still - pretty diapponting really
In a year I have to decide MY02, something else (Clio 172 NOT), or keep MY00.

Alex - LOL
Whilst I was at Powerstation last week I flicked through this month's Fast Car (purely for the Nurburg Ring article you understand ) only to see a picture of Tony Quinn at the Ring - fame for Tony at last (despite the insane grin) Didn't he go over last year with a certain person with a green scoob
Rich.

KOOL!
If you want to see something impressive, have a look at the one of Jonathan (from England) who is on a Yellow Honda VTR (Firestorm). See the gap he opens up on the guy following on an R1 as they enter the track... Very, very Impressed!
(Watch it you'll see what I mean if you know owt about bikes).

A little background info from the guy who filmed this lap:
The VTR in questions had a stock engine, but Maxton revalved suspension. It would have been in for a laptime of 8.50 if he hadn't ran out of gas. Powervice it is way behind the R1 (it was pulling away as a result of me not expecting such a quick start), but the handling was great. The movie showes that a VTR with a proper rider is capable of very decent laptimes. I know of several people with the latest spec bikes that never get below 9 minutes.

Jaydee,
Have you thought about the new sti when its out??
As for the X5 and gti-6, the x5 has some considerable bhp, is about 286bhp which is quite meaty in anyones books!
Clio 172..... hmmmm some say its not as quick as the 306 gti-6, others say it suffers terrible torque steer (which ive seen on driven) but it does have the weight advantage over the subaru, my MY00 will be quicker thou and i prefer to have something practical that handles well in both the wet and the dry and doesnt give me torque steer in abundance actually something that doesnt give me torque steer at all
Tony

Just a note, but my MY00 (only 204.5bhp, so power to weight half way between what it should be and a MY01) was no quicker than a Clio 172 between 50-110.
On the torque steer thing, I think it was Autocar that had one, and found that the geometry was miles out from when it left the factory, once that was sorted it handled a lot better, maybe a common fault?
Blowdog, was in the shops in Glasgow a week last Saturday, maybe you aren't looking at the right shelf
