230bhp @ 6445rpm
hmmmmmm i thought it might be 220!!!! how wrong was i?????
and it showed that my boost was hitting 12psi but then going down to 9psi and leveled at that!!!!
if i can get it to level at 12 it should give another 8-9bhp!
Thanks to Muddy and all the guys at Well Lane turbo Centre and the nice laydee photographer.
there should be a feature in Japanese Performance Car soon!
look out 4 it, there may be pix of me!!!!!

First time on a rolling road and what a disaster!!!
96 Sti with HKS air induction kit and straight threw Exhaust only got 270BHP, I only reached 9psi so there is a fault some where but really wanted to see what she could do. Not sure what it will do once I get a stable 12 - 13psi hopefully alot better was hopeing to get around 290BHP.
Never mind maybe next time
Nearly forgot Big thanks to Muddy and well lane great day still abit cold but it is getting warmer slowly. Well done Phill with ya 230BHP

seems like a lot of people were complaining their cars wouldn't hold boost today -
at least 5 of the scoobies had this problem, my own included - I was 15 bhp down on last sunday's run aswell and no-one cracked 300 bhp.
strange that the evo' 5s and 6s were getting 250-270 bhp figures which is also well down - there were some glum faces and I think more than a few people were hinting that they thought the RR equipment was on the blink. Hats off though to the Well Lane guys who were doing their damndest to get decent readings and were doing a pretty good job to get 23 cars on/off so efficiently.
still it was a 'shootout' comparing cars on the same rig on the same day - so I guess people will have to put up with the figures.
I think,if you are bothered, that Well Lane will do a dedicated RR session for £75 where you could learn a lot more about how the car is running rather than a quick 5 mins test.

Glad everyone enjoyed the day even though it was colder than the north pole!!!.
I won't mention what my figures were but you all know how disappointed I was, I'll have to dig deep now for a new dump valve, actuator, and samco hosing
It should hit a few more BHP, so I'll have to organise another day out for a re-match
StanS - although you did beat NigelK's P1 officially, I'm afraid Nigel had another rerun along with a few Evo 6's at the end of the day, and recorded 289BHP. 270BHP with mat modification, .
You beat me though
Simon - I would appreciate it if you could email me the pictures you took today, thanks.
I'll pass on your thanks to Trevor, his opinion of today was that he got great encouragement from the scooby owners and moans and wingeing from the Evo owners, I guess we have the better cars then

Hi Phil,Simon, Muddy, and all I met at Well Lane.
Nice meeting you.

When my car reads 245bhp first, then 345bhp with 4 people in I would whinge!
It was my first RR day and probably my last, hats off to the organisation but the facility is sub-standard.
Most Evo's were lifting off the rear rollers so the readings were suspect.
Evo V 250bhp
Evo III 315bhp
Sorry but the figures aren't worth the paper they were photocopied on!

pwebb - Great pictures, do you mind if I use them on my website.
Hunty - I was not trying to upset the Evo owners , I was just trying to be a bit tongue in cheek.
Well Lane Turbo's story, was that before the sessions began they were asked if people could sit in the cars, their reply was "No" it is not needed, it will not make any difference. After all the scoobs went through and a couple of the Evos it was apparant that some of the figures were not correct, so people sat in the car to add more weight for traction.
Surprise, surprise the BHP figures then read true and Well Lane were made to eat Humble pie.
Going into the afternoon it was apparant that some of the figures were becoming eratic and they put it down to the Rollers being too hot!!!!!.
As with everybody I agree that the Well Lane Turbo lads did a great job.
I don't think that the set up they have can cope with a large event like what we had yesterday,I'm sure there would be no problems if they just had 10-15 cars.
At the end of the day it was a good day out and allowed everybody to mingle and chat "cars".
Salsa-king- How did the dentist go.
I'm still grogy after my operation today, so apoligies if everything I have typed is a bit gobledygook.
Muddy.

Phil - you have to do more than jump up and down to get some get up and go ! It was after all a shoot out - the idea was to fly the Scooby flag ?!? 16 psi (1.14 bar)should be fine - the 21 (1.45 bar) might be iffy if held for more than say 15s !
BIG grin driving it !!
Muddy - Doh !! Thought it was too good to be true ! Still - not bad for an old UK98 !! Nigel/Muddy - What were NigelK's torque figures ?
Great day.

Hi Stan
The final figs I came away with was 293bhp and torque of 268lbft.
The first run was done with the prodrive mat stuck under the accelerator, which has a habit of slipping forwards off its cheap plastic securing peg!!!
I reckon Simon Burton's P1 would have topped 300bhp with the Scooby sport exhaust as he took me out in it and it was definitley quicker than mine. It also pulled better from low revs as the turbo spooled up faster.

Can someone explain exactly what you do in the drivers seat on a RR session? is the test done in 4th gear? do you just go through the gears and in 4th floor it?
Sorry to be dense, but this is new territory for me and I'm really keen to know what my figures are (MY00 UK+PPP+SS DP+SS ITG Filter) - I have no idea!

They get the car rolling through 1st, 2nd, & 3rd, then from 1000-1500rpm in forth, they floor it and let it rev as high as you let them!!!
Surely though, there must be quite a margin for error as different types cars have different gear ratios/final drive.
Also would smaller wheels make a difference?
Faster spin up = Higher Torque?
I think the only truly reliable way to test an engines power output is to use an engine dyno - But this is a trifle impractical!
(Especially for a RR day!!!)
Pancake anybody???

Salsa.
Is your car well? You get 230bhp with exhaust and filter, yet Simon A's similarly modded car manages 249bhp?
Add this to your despair at Spod, is everything OK with the Salsa-Mobile?
Stan.
Great figures, the PPP ecu's working well then?
Stef.

Phil - no idea what a 97 (or what my specific 98) motor will take. I admit to limited (but growing) knowledge and would not dream of advising anyone about anything as technical as boost tolerances. I rang several genuine experts (rather than well meaning enthusiasts) and pooled and considered their advice (see last post for the concensus of advice I am following). In the end, it is you that has to pay the price if you (or your advisers) get it wrong !!
Stef - ppp well worth it, but the extra boost is what kicks *** when you boot it !
NigelK - great (safe) figures. Thanks for letting me know how close my O/P is to a P1's.

Phil's car was only holding 9psi boost on the day for some reason, Craig's car only held 9psi, and Muddy's only held 8psi! Quite strange!
I'm not sure who's rollers to believe these days. I got 272bhp/235ibs/ft on the day, (95wrx, fujitsubo centre/rear section, ss downpipe, blitz induction kit, 12psi held) but at the last shootout at Powerstation with the same mods I got 259bhp/214ibs/ft. When I last ran at Power Engineering (same mods but standard downpipe & no octane booster) I got 264bhp/228ibs/ft. I dunno, maybe another trip to Power Engineering is required!

thanks 4 asking, the drugs have worn off now
I was in there all day, went in at 09:30, had op at 11:30 and was out at 5:00pm.
The knee is damn sore and I'm limping alot, can't drive for a while either
Yep, N88 EVO won the Top BHP of the day, Top Mitsubishi BHP.
*** FUN won the Best turned out car in the end Trevor made a diplomatic vote, seeing that N88 EVO won 2 trophies, he though it was a little unfair on everybody else. Although it was the best car there!!.
At the end of the day it was just a bit of fun
Leigh, do you recon I have a problem then 8psi and only 225bhp (standard 240!!)
Don't know what to do , anybody got any ideas!!

I voted for ***FUN! Nice car I thought, don't like loads of stickers on cars, and it was silver!
I'm pretty sure your car should be holding roughly 12psi, I reckon you're missing about 25bhp! Why not put a thread on the drivetrain forum? My car should be going in to Roger Clarks for a service on Monday, I'll ask what they think the problem might be if you like.
Craig, nice car m8, got the salt off it yet?

Have to say I'm quite surprised at your torque figure Steve. Is very high, fairly low down.
Last time I was out in yours, I was waiting for something to happen. It was lag lag lag lag lag lag (being overtakien by a pushbike at this point) lag lag lag lag, whoooooooooooosh. Wheelspin, still standing still.
What's that all abbout then?
