Default STI 8 vs Spec C

Hi,

Does anyone have any information on the STI8/spec C?

Im thinking of ditiching my e46 m3 idea and going ***** out with a spec C instead.

How do the stock engines/gearboxes/ diffs / clutches / suspension / brakes work out?

Notice the spec C RA-R has 6 & 4pots.

Basically after some general information on then an opions of modding.

I would want to push it to mid 400s if i was to buy and it would see about 6 track days a year and daily driven.

Thanks
Chris

oh right The Spec C is basically a focused track car from the factory,it has all the soundproofing removed, front mounted oil cooler, transmission cooler as standard but there are so many other tweaks over the standard STi which makes it so much of a better car

yeah seen its got some chassic stiffening.

If i go the spec C route its going to be 450+ so would be nice to know how they take this compared to the classic STI which cant take more than 330 without needing new gearbox clutch engine etc etc.

What about the spec C v limited and all that?

Susupension/arb changes? the spec C still run theh 330mm Brembo setup? or something beefier?

The Spec C runs Brembos front and rear and has front and rear strut braces as standard. It has the JDM 6 speed box as standard which is capable of 500+ with no problems.Mine is running 353/361 with just an exhaust and remap and will comfortably run 400 on standard internals.Being tein scroll you wont need more than that as it spools so quickly,i get peak boost at 3000 rpm which is nice.As I say Tont has a list of differences over the STi which i am sure he will post up when he sees this thread. You are welcome to have a look/drive of mine if you find yourself on the coast

from memory there are Spec C motorsport,Spec C RA,Spec C WR Ltd,Spec C Arai,Spec C RA-R then there are the litchfield Type 20,25 variants

Differences with a spec c - Type-RA.co.uk - Forum for Subaru Impreza WRX Type RA, WRX STi, Spec-C, S202, Type RA-R

would have to bin the equal length headers!

you would have to bin the whole twinscroll setup then as i dont think you can get unequal headers for twinscroll

The only difference in fuel setup is that the spec c has an anti surge fuel tank mod as standard no extra mods would be required to my knowledge although a better pump might be required for 450

Scooby-tc,
Rear strut brace is dependant on year.

scoobyc,
Don't bin the OE equal length headers.... they are superb and extremely good and reliable!

Read my articles here -> https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...roduction.html if you want to know what a Spec C is and how to modify it.

Then read this thread if you want to know how to make it REALLY quick!

That should keep you going for a few weeks!

got about 16-18k. would be nice to spend 14 and then have some money to really mess with it however mods can be stretched out over time.

Do the later engines suffer **** con rods or fuel/oil starvation on track or are they much more solid? Weak big ends still?

The spec -c got different internals?

and dont the equal length headers kill the scooby burble?

Can the later imprezas fit 18"s for the ex btcc slicks unlike the classic without arch mods?

no such thing as STi8, the new age cars go on Model Year. eg MY04 is what some incorrectly call an STi8.

Scoobyc,
Engines are one of the strongest of all Impreza turbo lumps and will take 450+bhp without doing any work on the engine itself. Oil system is good along with uprated fuel pick assembly to combat surge.

Engine wise the Spec C has different heads over the equivalent JDM STi.

Equal length headers kill the burble, but you have other advantages as part of the twinscroll set-up, where it counts. Performance, driveability and response.

Dependant on year the Spec C will take up to either a 235 or 245 (iirc) tyre without arch mods. 18's fit as well.

Ive spent around £10k on my spec-c to get it to 490bhp with a twin plate clutch and coilovers and has been like that for 2 years so the engines and gearboxes are very strong

scooby-tc,
I used to co-own this site, so hence the formal layout of the first link, as I had the means to do it like that. However, since hanging up the gloves I have used the "Projects" forum, which everyone can use to create "Project" related articles etc. This is the second link on my post.

Most queries as regards to what gives what for modification purposes should be answered in both of the links I have given you. Any other questions, just ask away.
