Have you checked the owners manual? normally has an indication of what these things mean, would say at a guess that you have either no gas in the system or low gas, when was the ac last serviced??

ok, i have gone to have a look at the car this evening and its not only th A/C button but the rear demister and the re circulate buttoms are all flashing too, at the time they are flashing there is a click from down by the accelerator pedal, could this be a relay, fuse gone or something else, also the heater never actually blows, please help me its very steamy!!!

Normally flashing indicates a fault

Put AC on no recirc turn far left to screen demist only, the fan should go flat out.

Try it in Manual

Turn temperature to 30c

Take the Fan control off Auto and turn around dial so Fan is on Fully to right.

The Fan should goes flat out, if not fan fuse/switch/connection/feed wire etc etc.etc.

IMHO

well this problem is still carrying on, it has been in the garage since wed and my chap has looked at it, and his mate who works for subaru has looked at it and now its fri and we are still no further forward, they have found some other wires that look as thought they have been chewed in the past (nothing to do with the heater) the only thing the subaru bloke can this is that that actual heater unit if knackard, but he said this is an expensive guess, what do i do some one must have had something like this, its really getting me down now!

On my car (my06) so maybe different to yours

I have just tried mine If i pull out the bottom row from left to right 5th blue 15amp fuse (under money pockey by drivers knee) my fan will not work and my recirc heater A/C lights flash just like yours so MAYBE either the fuse/connectors/sensor/controller

"If" that fuse is OK check that the connections are good on the heater unit.

grab hold of the silver gearstick surround (gator) closest to handbrake, pull up, and it will click out. it will "unhook out on top" (clip in/out no screws)

That will expose two screws holding in the The heater control and radio silver surround. remove, the top of the surround is clip in/out use a thin knife covered with paper(to stop damage) between top surround and top vent, gentle prize out each top corner.

There are 2 connectors and round sensor connector, remeove 2 oblong connectors(there is a centre locking tab you have to push in or will NOT come out) put back in and retest. this is how simple to change unit.

if connection and fuse still has a fault maybe the controller (try a scrappy) best still try and just swop with a mates with same year scoob to try

Best of luck

Tony
