pop the ad up mate, might be a member on here.

80k is not high for that year,

i would be asking

how long it has been in the country
if it has been remap'd for uk fuel, if so by what company / mapper.
who has been servicing it

from this yo ucan contact the garage in question and ask them about the car, same for the mapper.

if it has been in the country for 2 years and run on vpower but no mapping then i would leave it alone it it were me as there are many clean examples that have been mapped from day one to our fuel which will give you the ebst chance of it mnot letting go, although you will never be 100% unless you buy one with a rebuild that has been mapped straight away and serviced by well known specalists and due to the year mapped with a ecu link simtec which eliminates the maf.

have a look in the for sale section as there are a few nice sti's in there around your budget
think 340bhp-wrx and loki have two clean examples for sale already setup to 340bhp if not more.

Oh heck I'm having a bit of a worry on no. Mine is a Import MY99 V5 which I've had for two years now. Though she has been really reliable, she is on just over 60k.

I dnt thrash the car and have it serviced correctly. Now I've always used tesco super unleaded 99ron. Now I've always been under impression its ok to do this without a remap. I've not done any mods to her. So will I need to do a remap. Ouch if I do it will cost a bomb

So you know what you are buying then, well it's a fresh import so if I were you to b safe if you do buy it go and get it mapped by some like bob Rawle, jgm or andy Forrest, and then you should have no worries also replace the fuel pump for a walbro 255 or similar and other than that you should be fine think about it 80k is not much for a ten year old car, looks clean so go and check it out

117k on my MY99 no issues, Just sold out Hawkeye MY06 and we had 142k on that with no issues at all.
If its been looked after should go for another 100k if you keep up the maintenance

My 93 cars still pulling well with 89,000 on the clock, not needed any engine work doing yet, touch wood it will stay that way ive been using millers oil and always used shell opimax - V power fuel, only running 250ish bhp so maybe this is also a factor with the reliability and mine has a closed deck block too so dont know how much stronger my engine is to a normal WRX.

Dont take this the wrong way but you already spent money on it in your mind which is fine although as tx says the 99 / 00 model is prone to engine failure for a few reasons.

So before you do anything (and this would just be me) I would have the car fully serviced plus a cambelt and tensioners as it is a fresh import you will have no proof this has been done and the belt is due at 45k and 90k, thing that service is around 400quid, then add the 200 quid for the pump and 1200 for something like the simtec which eliminates the
maf that is alrady best part of 2k as you may aswell add a full decat system with that and pannel filter to get the most out of the remap and you will have a very tidy car which in my opinion you can not make it any safer so cross fingers you have done as much as you can to prevent it going pop. Maintain it with regular oil changes use good quality fuel warm it up before a hammering and you should be ok,

All just my opinon and I maybe wrong and not trying to tell you how to suck eggs

When I had brought mine from MIR motors evan though they said it had been fully serviced and had a cambelt change prior to being sold.

I took it straight away to have it again fully serviced and cambelt change. So touch wood, well mine is always fully servied often with good oil. I always warm it up when I'm driving which often leads to cars overtaking me and wondering why I'm not putting in any effort lol. And it cools down with a turbo timer.

So I'll touch wood. I would love to get her remapped just for the knowledge its safer. But will think about it. Mapping is costly, though a engine rebuild is more lol

i have a my98 uk terzo with a 176,000miles still on the original engine and gearbox fitted with a td05 and a rake of other supporting engine mods and it has ran mapped for over 40,000 miles trouble free, mapped by paul blamire zen performance.
all i do is service it regular and treat it with respect ie warm it up properly . look after it and it will be fine with high milage
