Default Car selling, somebody interested from Malta, scam or not ?

Selling my car on here and Pistonheads, i have had a e-mail and phone call from somebody interested from Malta, says he will send someone from UK to view car and buy car with cash if car is ok, has anyone had these calls or e-mails from Malta or anyone sold a car to Malta via somebody in the uk ? I am just very weary and have told him the cash will be banked before releasing the car ?

Very possibly a scam - but that's part of the problem you never can tell.

If someone is paying in cash for a car, I would strongly suggest you tell them it's got to be a cash sale in a bank where the cash is given to the teller for them to check over and deposit in your account. Once it's in the account you can let the car go.

CASH CASH CASH all the way,Just like said above.

THE scam might be as simple as just turning up with other means of paying,Put the guilt trip on u and jobs done..........put it in plain and simple turms to him, If he turns up with any other method of payment...u will be sending him on his way!!!!!!! regardless of how far he has travelled ....!!!!

Its a SCAM buddy - without doubt. Ive experienced this story before and so has a business associate of ours.

The cash sale will never materialise. Once they have established a raport with you they will then try and change things and roll out the con. Many permiatations to the scam such as a cash deposit then turining up for collection with a draft or offer of transfer

As genuine or tempting as it may be in this poor selling climate - dont bite.

By all means play them along for a while, maybe test their knowledge on what they are supposedly purchasing - it will all beocme clear mate

Foreign money can easily be turned into a scam ... make sure any payment is banked before you let your car go. If they are willing to pay you to ship the car for them, then run like the wind

TX.

Edit - when I sold the wifes TT I had nutters calling from Pakistan saying they'd fly in, view the car, pay for it & fly out again. When I confirmed they'd need to accompany me to the bank with payment it all went cold

Be careful, but don't write anyone off, a mate off mine sold his S15 to a guy in Cyprus, he also worried about a scam.

A guy came with the cash then they went to the bank in the car together ( I tagged along) banked the cash then he drove away.

Simples and goodluck

all these doubters

as long as the buyer turns up with cash and you bank the money with them present and all is ok then sign the log book and happy days.

a guy contacted me over my old p1, i took 3 weeks of conversations via email but he turned up on the day he said he would, on time, we banked them money and away he went. since he has joined on here and has stripped the car, popping a 2.35ltr and rotated setup in it. so not all are scamers

my sti went to Cyprus , he came to my home I took him out in the car , He paid the money into my account by internet banking, When my bank told me the cash was in my account, He then arranged transport for the sti from my home to the docks then over to Cyprus , (not everone is bad) >>> Just make sure you have very clear funds,
If anyone wants your car tell them to come to you.

i had this about 8 weeks ago for a astra i had, it started of as cash then turned into bank trasfer and they expected me to pay for shipping, i disagreed and said if they want the car the should pay which was agreed, my partner made me phone the bank to confirm how safe these bank transfers were from abroad and they told me to stay well clear as alot of fraud is being done this way at the moment and once the cars gone its gone and you'll have nothing, so i just put it on autotrader and sold it,

Could be genuin mate, you never know until someone turns uo with the readies!!

I had my supra on Ebay and a bloke called Max from Germany mailed me saying he was interested in the car, he would pick it up with cash etc.....

I have to admit it smelt heavily of a scam but I gave him the benfit of the doubt, we arrange to meet at my nearest Tesco (safe place nowhere near my house) and true to his word a rather camp German Chap with three of his chums turned up on a low loader all the way from Germany, they inspected the car, Max wrote a bill of sale and paid me in £50 notes.... Touch!!

It was by far the easiest car sale I think I have ever had
