Default TD05 20G?

I currently have a wrx import, want to pick the best turbo for the car, currently has a TD05 16g standard but wanted to no if the TD05 20G will be to laggy, is it possible to get good power from standard turbo.

Also wanted to find out some information but headers and up pipes. I am looking into buying a decent set of headers and up pipe. Do these make much of a difference and what is the difference between a good one and not so go one. Hope someone can offer some good advice on this
Thanks

Stick with standard headers just get them ported by Harvey on here do a search , can speak to him about up pipe as well

index

or contact him on here , td05 16g will do 350bhp at max , 20g will do 380-400bhp speak to Andy forrest on here or

AndyForrestPerformance

remember you will need better brakes , clutch , gear box , injectors , re-map list goes on and on .

The 16G is the best turbo for your engine, running a 20G will eat your gearbox and clutch and put too much load on your rods (the weakest part of your engine) and cause catastrophic failure.
You will need several mods to get the best out of the 16g (or any other turbo for that matter), those being an uprated fuel pump, front mounted intercooler, bigger injectors, far better brakes, uprated ecu or an esl chip (depends on the year), uprated engine hoses (samco or the likes, these are recommended) a ks3 knock sensor or knocklink (the ks3 is recommended over the knocklink and a google search will show you what they are)

Once you have priced these all up you may be a little shocked but short cuts will cost you more

I always admit my favorite turbo was my td05, it was so much fun. I personally think it would run better with a newage STI TMIC, a good inlet pipe and an APS cold air intake. Plus the usual mods. The 20g is a nice turbo as well but it will break your gearbox.

Also wanted to find out some information but headers and up pipes
Generally normal headers will give a slighter better spool also they wont be able to make as much boost as aftermarket headers as they won't flow as good therefore less power. After market headers will probs spool 300rpm later than standard but where as the standard will say max out at 1.4/5bar? The aftermarkets ones will allow for more. When I had my td05 andyf mapped it and it was reading 1.6bar on his laptop, on my defi's it used to peak at say 1.7/1.8 bar

The TD05 16G can do 340-350 bhp and is fast spooling. An 18G will do a little bit more and spools just as fast. A VF35 is very similar to a TD05 16G and the 18G is very similar to a VF34 which is roller bearing with ability 350-360 bhp. In my experience the 18G can produce a little more than the VF34 but may spool marginally less than the VF34.
For all these applications ported headers and matched uppipe are your best option.
There are a lot of different TD05 20G combinations out there producing from under 360 bhp to over 420 bhp. The 20Gs don't spool as well as any of the above turbos but generally produce a good bit more power, especially if you get a good one.
Tubular headers (as supplied) on the 20Gs make similar power to ported headers with matched uppipe but the tubular header uppipe slugs the spool.
There are ways round this.
