Having a look on the bay they do vary in price and what seems style/quality,i would love to buy a genuine one but at £250-£300 unpainted its a tad much ((£450 painted)

so,the ones for £130-£160 unpainted,anyone bought one from the bay or elsewhere and been happy with it ?

I have bought 2 from discountjapprts (3rd link down on you post) they look good when you get them and painted , but after a few weeks the paint started to react and bubbled and cracked , I went for a carbon fibre one in the end

Agree with you if you have the correct primer paint should not flake.Best to go down and see the spoilers for yourself i have seen some that the joints are really bad.

i held out for months for a genuine one, glad i did.

dont think id personally buy a replica out of FG but id have a carbon one having seen one in real life. buy from a reputable dealer too

As above, I HAD a replica, after a couple of years it cracked, and the paint started to bubble.
It was also HORRENDOUSLY heavy

I now have a genuine one.

IF you can really get a genuine one for £250-£300, go for it, save up, whatever. New they are around £1000

i have seen a genuine one for £250

id have to have it repainted so thats another £100 so £350 for it painted

aftermarket £150 £100 painted so £250,suppose an extra £100 isnt alot for the genuine one is it might go that route

I brought a aftermarket one, quality was shocking, by the time the work was done to get it mint for painting plus paint it would have owed me close to £350. Found myself a genuine one painted ready to fit for £100. Had to travel 150 miles to collect but still saved me alot of money and looks so much better and fitted perfect. Sold the old one to a young lad in the town, its now on the back of his honda civic painted with a can he knew how to keep it cheap

The bottom one is closer, and as far as I can see from the photo, is off an STi5. The STi6 ones had an upward turned lip at the rear of the top wing.

How to tell a real one? Difficult. It MUST be made of ABS, nowt else, not f/glass or PU.
The brakelight should be as above, white LEDs showing red when lit, and the plastic bit UNDER the brakelight should be removable with three slot-headed bolts/machine screws.

DO NOT take any notice of any marks on the bottom saying "ABS" since my replica had those, it was moulded off a real one

If in doubt, scratch the base underneath, or at least some of the paint off it, it should be made of a black, and fairly soft, "chewy," plastic. ABS. Scratch and sniff the plastic: it will smell of model kit plastic.

As above plus my genuine one also has little plastic covers that clip into place over the holes where the bolts go thro where as the non genuine one i had just left the holes showing when you lifted the boot.

Its a 2 part spoiler that can be unbolted thru the Big holes seen underneath

My money would be on that being a copy too. On the real thing, the TWO self-tapping screws holding the cover underneath the brakelight are THREE machine screws that screw into threaded inserts moulded into the spoiler.

Also, the two holes under either side/end are covered with large blanking grommets.

No, not always, it depends what the spoiler has been made of.

Those made of fibreglass resin can suffer from cracking since it is inherently brittle, and even a slightly wrong mix leads to bubbling as the stuff gases off, sometimes months later

i bought a replica sti 6 spoiler and quality was ok,just needed mould lines flatted etc ready for paint!

then found a bargin on ebay,genuine sti 5 spoiler for £70!!!needless to say i had that and sold the sti6 spoiler on!!!!

i brought one off the bay i paid £160 all primered and it was a good fit and the spoiler its self was spot on no probs as i no some spoilers are total poo and should go stright in the bin i should no i have my own spray garage if its flaked off like that it means it wasent keyed up(sanded down)properly as the paint hasnt got anythink to lock on to as mine was in good nick just needed a good scotch up

mate do yourself a big favour and hold out until you find a genuine subaru item. if you are lucky or are willing to wait you will find one in your paint code too. so rather than paying £160 for a spoiler then the rest to get it painted you will find a genuine item in your colour for similar money. email saj here Jap Performance Parts : Home i have used them loads fo times for parts and they have always been of top quality too. they had a v5 and a v6 for sale but they have recieved deposits on them so it is worth a call to him and ask if he has anything in or coming in soon.

I bought one of their plastic P1 splitters, it was was a perfect fit and very well made.

Back on topic, My T2000 has a 'V6 style' spoiler and it's crap. Was on the car when I bought it but will be replacing it with a genuine one soon.

i have a non gen one and its cracked in the middle where ive tightened it down. this is cos it dont fit flush on the boot all the way across. that said the spoiler was never designed for the version 1 wrx i have anyway.

Agree,but since i paid less than half that for this one and its in my car colour i couldnt say no

All i have to decide now is to mount it to my boot only by the 2 original holes either side or Drill the boot to use the extra mounting points within the base of the spoiler,but dont like the idea of making ym bootlid only for an STI 5/6 spoiler if i wanted to go back to the STI 4 spoiler i have

would the 2 on each side be enough ????

I attached mine with the standard 2 original bolts either side and used some tigerseal on just the ends (where the original v4 spoiler bolts on) so i can still remove it and put the v4 spoiler on if i want
