A car without MOT is worth scrap so pay as little as possible. There's one on scoobynet for sale at £500 and missing a few bits. IF you pay too much with a view to putting it on the road and there is something wrong with the engine you're screwed.
IMHO you don't leave a car without an MOT if you just rebuilt the engine 6K ago and there's nothing wrong with it. Beware because without an MOT you won't be test driving it to see how the engine is doing or how it drives generally, either with or without a buggered gearbox!! A gearbox swap is cheap though at £300-£400 for a classic in good order if you do it yourself.
These days scrap can pay good money but breaking it for bits can be even more lucrative. It should be cheap and sold for spares or repair only. It's worth less than £500 if the engine genuinely OK.

i would say no more than £2000 with the gearbox and diff problems and no mot/tax also dependant on mileage and condition of the car as there are minters on ebay from as little as £3,500 also you cant test drive it so dont know state of the engine! my way of thinking is that if you buy it at 2k even in worse case scenario being that its fvcked you can easily make your money back in either breaking it or selling it on as it is hope this helps

That's an early reg'd bugeye then. I've seen plenty of late reg'd classics about too and that's what i based my asumption on so apologies, my mistake.
Worth a bit more than £500. maybe a £1000 to £1500 tops but if it has no MOT and you cannot test drive it so there is no telling what the score is. Even at £1500 you could get your money back by breaking it but would you shell out even £2500 for this knowing very little about it, not being able to test drive it, having to shell out £450 straight away for a decent box, and going purely on someones word??
I wouldn't
