What are the differences between the STI UK and the Japanese STI
#2
On some JDM STI's the front Suretrac Diff is an option, so make sure you get one on an import. JDM can have HID lights, which won't make it through the SVA tests so would need to be changed for that (though changed back after ). JDM has smoked rear windows and a rear wash/wipe (?) . JDM Prodrive STI has a 'RA' style roof vent, UK Prodrive doesn't.
I;m sure there is more.

Most people say that the suspension is much harder (but nobody has been able to say what the differences really are component wise), the speedo is in kph and is limited to 112mph.
Litchfields are doing new Jap spec STi's (I think) for £20k.

Am I right in thinking that the Japanese model has inferior rust protection?
Will Subaru dealers in the UK service these now?
I'm currently looking at importing a silver STi wagon, but I'm getting all sorts of conflicting stories about the spec.

STi Wagon spec *IS* different from STi saloon spec.
The differences I'm aware off are that it does not get the brembos, the front suretrack diff, and no flared arches, plus probably other stuff.
The brakes, well, you could nab a set of the brembo's from someone going to a different setup, as for the diff, well, guess you could fit one, but probably too much grief/cost involved.
To be honest, the STi wagon is really just the STi engine in a Wagon bodyshell. Which is a pity because i feel subaru is missing out big time here, look at other car co's eg Audi with the RS4 and the BMW M5 Touring, and if it ever comes, and a bit of a longshot I know, the MG V8 Estate thing, which is meant to be an M5 Rival.

Markus,
Thanks for the information. I'm certainly not going to buy the STi wagon if it does not all the "right" features.
So, how do I convince my wife that the new 4 door STi is roomier and has a bigger boot than my MY99 wagon?

I'm in the same boat here. Currently a MY99 5 door and would dearly love an STi but am not going to buy a 5 door when half the features of the 4 door aren't present! So it may be a 330D touring for me although wifey wants a new Espace (AAAGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!)
