Miles or Months for keeping to service schedule???

Scoob is just coming upto 30k miles and I am gonna book it in soon, but reading the service schedule it says at 36 months it should have the 45k service. I want to keep it to the mileage service schedule but should I really obey the book and do it by which ever comes first, in which case I have bought a car that doesn't have a full service history according to the book as he did it purely on mileage.
Oh and its a MY98 and now 36 months old. Am I worrying unnecessarily????
Please people let me know your opinions on this.

Oh I definately don't want to skimp, but if I go for the 45k service then it misses all the ones in between! I would rather keep full history on it, what I was getting at, is the time factor really as important as mileage?????? i.e. it has only done 30k so shouldn't it just have its 30k service?????

Mine went in today for a service, they said they could do either a two year one, or just a lube service as the milage is only on 22k, not the 30 it says for two years, so I guess your paying the bill, you tell them what you want.

Mine will be done on time - is 3 years old and done 30,000 miles but service is for 45,000.
Ron,
Where did you take yours? Mine has to go in this month for the 45,000 service (cam belt change = serious cost ) so I need somewhere cheap!
Cheers.

BuRR,
I had my 45k Service at Pulleyns in York yesterday, an altogether very reasonable £352 inc VAT.(inc cambelt)
I believe other localish dealers are charging considerably more.
Very pleased with them. They also rang to ask if i wanted my tyres changing as they are all looking a bit low, but unfortunately, they will have to wait until payday!

Bravo,
Be careful and be very wary of some advice, sure you can tell the dealer what do do, heck tell him just to fill the washer bottle that should be even cheaper but as an engineer I can tell you that oils, rubbers, plastics etc all degrade with time as well as wear.
Sure it's gonna be a pain at times but the dealer should put you a sticker in the windscreen which tells you mileage or date.
As for your concern at missing some of the servicing, you could bite the bullet and get yourself a 90k service (30k full lube and 45k cam belt together)Main dealer will cost you less than £650 all in.
As pointed out by miles it is a performance car you drive

Bravo, my Car (MY97) has the same service history (done by mileage rather than age). Just had the 45,000 sevice done, which was £455 @ Sparshatts of Botley Subaru dealer.
Would it be considered 'risky' not having the 45K service done until the car has actually done 45K miles, as it is almost 5 years old. I thought that this was acceptable and I was planning to have the car serviced yearly by Subaru and I would change the oil myself every 6 months.
Thought this would be ok

Thanks for the replies people, the other point i was considering is that because the 30K service is a biggy that this would be ok. Is the 45k the same but including cam belt change or are there other major changes as well? Surely the cam belt doesn't need to be done after only 30k miles??? I am not going to listen to a garage because they want the money in their pocket which is why I am asking u guys.

Bravo with the cambelt dont take the risk. The material perishes and the teeth of the belt wear away, that is why you should seriously consider gettin it done if your car is nearly 3yrs old, regardless of the mileage. My MY99 has done 36K and is 3yrs old in May. I'm getting my 45K service inc cambelt done in a few weeks. Imagine the cost if the belt snaps! It had its 37.5K service only in January.
afaik the 45K service is only for cambelt change, so yes there would be other things included in the 30K one, like complete fluid changes.

OK I think I get the message now so to confirm, I want to get the 30k service done and have the cam belt changed at the same time due to the car being 36 months old. I will start looking into pricing and where I can sell some organs and limbs to finance it

Bravo,
Hope the purchase price reflected the servicing and tyre requirements!
As for price of servicing I had my 90k (30k+45k) done at main dealer for £635 all in
I'd just make sure you get the full Subaru recommended schedule of inspection and maintenance done if you do go independant, i.e ask em for a breakdown of what they do/replace.
If you need I can mail you what they should do?

Melon cheers for your help, I am just weighing up using dealer vs someone my father knows who has just setup a sports car servicing centre after working for Audi for many years. He is looking to do Subaru's as one of a few makes he wants to specialise in. I am emailing him tonight to get more info off of him regarding his knowledge, equipment and pricing.
