Default £5500, what classic would you buy?

ok, very very tempted by a mint rb5 up for £6k only mod is full decat, 67k, full history, looks a very pampered car, love the colour, its rare, and wont lose much value imo due to its rarity/condition. or i could buy a mint low mileage standard uk turbo and mod it slightly, decat, suspension mods, brakes, remap. or i could go down the import route, type ra, type r. never driven a ra or type r, have owned a modded classic and a v3 sti though. car is for short commute and for fun, to be kept for a good few years, and be pampered (im a clean freak! lol) help me make up my mind.

I would go type r or ra route personally, rb5's are uk's are slow.

Also i think the imports look a lot better, however i do like the rarity of the rb5.

Well 6k gets you this

Subaru : wrx ppp 265bhp

So 5k.... (though personally I think its overpriced as it doesnt have any decent extra's like a/c)

Subaru : Subaru Impreza Turbo - Immaculate Condition - Only 39,000 miles

EU import and waaaaaaaay over priced (my old one went (2nd owner) with less miles and better mods for 5k in march/april this year and fssh, ppp, ac, defi's, brembo/ap combo brakes etc)

Subaru : subaru impreza turbo

So plenty of overpriced classics out there, one or two in the right 4-4.5k on lowish miles (see below) or a nice MY03 newage for similar money....

Subaru : subaru impreza uk turbo

Well for that sort of money (actually a bit less) i bought a nice Type R (well i think it's nice ) but it depends if you do want to go to Newage or stick with classic shaped.

Type R would be my choice......A nice Version 6 Type r at that value if possible in the darker blue shade....Big-Fud had one up for sale in the rpivate for sale section - this is now sold but again a very nice example that was indeed. I have a version 3 type r in sonic blue now and i would never change it for anything and i have had a few classic scoobs. Good Luck with whatever you decide on mate.

My vote would be a Type R, but heard insurance can be reasonably expensive.

Type R's are nice but dont buy from muppets like this who have no understanding of the mechanics

Subaru : STI TYPE R..2 DR..VERSION 4

Very low price but what needs doing?

Subaru : VERSION 6 TYPE R LAST OF THE BEST CLASSICS

That Version 6 Type R is Big Fuds!!!!! I think he has a lot of understanding of these cars, he has had about 20 of them, and about 3 22B's over the years, so likes his 3 door scoobys.

Nothing wrong with low priced cars, especially scoobys, and other performance cars, Not everyone can afford to keep them, as most people on here know there expensive to run/maintain, and when you come to sell there are tons of them through the classifieds, so a lot of people just cut there losses and sell them cheap to get rid!!!!

All depends on what type of driving experience you want from your scoob. I wanted a mix of STI and RA, and went for a V2 '555', been happy ever since

I know the previous owner of BIG FUDs one said it needed some TLC and was advertised at a ridiculously low £4k and unsuprising sold within hours , but wonder if the TLC needed has been done.

plenty out there of well priced clean examples, i think yes some may be dogs but there a few owners who know the value of the car and are not after silly money. just because it is priced at a cheaper value does not mean it is rough. i have been looking around at a replacement to my t25 if it ever sells and you can find a nice looking (as i am yet to view one) for the money you are looking at

Sorry, but I wasn't to know that it had been sold Just letting him know it needed some TLC according to the last owner, as I'm sure you'd appreciate the info if you were interested in buying a car. Take a chill pill

Again, I wasn't to know the TLC had been done as I wasn't to have known you'd sold it. Do you mind read? Because I don't.

As for paying £4k for it I'm sure it was going to be bought up by somebody as it was such a cheap car and most would prob. agree that £5k is pretty good as well, probably a contributing factor to why you haven't had it sitting around for too long.

I've brought 2 scoobies off Big Fud and had no problems with either and like he says it was hassle free as he mot'd, serviced ,taxed and valetted both of em before i collected
I would Recommend the big man to sort me a car
good luck in your search and i would probably go for a type r if u can get away with 2doors if a 4 door is needed then something like a v5 v6 sti
You got quite a decent budget if u goin 4 a classic

i have seen a few nice type r's and ra;s for sale at sva imports, but obviously they are priced a bit on the high side, looking at £5995 for a v3 type r, there is a nice cool grey one. i do like the ra's as well, would have to be sonic blue. i think i need to drive each of them to compare. my last car was a v3 sti 4dr which was standard, i did like that car but never really gave me the wow factor.

I've seen the type r and RA at SVA which was over a year ago and they weren't exactly mint, but didn't look bad. May have had the work done to tidy up the few cosmetic things that needed doing. It could be the case that they have it in their ads that they need some TLC, best cover every angle to keep everyone happy!
