Default Impreza questions

Hi all

I recently moved into the countryside, and running my 350z over the winter could prove treturous. I am looking for an AWD 2nd car and want your opinions.

It does not need to be quick, just grippy, reliable and with more space than the Z. I have seen 2 imprezas advertised that I might look at.

When does the timing belt require changing on these models? What should I look for when viewing. Any thoughts on either?

2001 SUBARU Impreza 2.0 Sport 4WD

2003 SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0 GX AWD 5dr Sportwagon

Thanks,

Pedro.

the non turbos are considered very reliable, (as are non-modified turbo models) so check the basics. i would suggest although that 4wd will move the car in snow much better than a RWD or FWD car, tyre choice is crucial, and the difference between a good winter tyre and a low profile 'performance' all year tyre can be shocking. iirc camblet is 62k or 4 years.

Hi again,
Bought a tidy 52 plate black GX wagon with full subaru service history and 50k miles on clock. Car drives very well, no issues noted on the 100 mile drive today.
Only thing that irritates me is the loud beep when you lock/unlock car. The key does not unlock car, it is an additional subaru key fob. How can I dissable the beeping noise? Thanks
Also, the car is a bit understeery as I expected, though I suspect part of this is to do with the economy tyres which are due to be replaced withing the next few thousand miles. What would anyone suggest replacing these with? I have Falkens on my 350z which are great, but not sure what would go well with the GX.
Thanks in advance,
Pedro.

some people have seen 200k, in theory, if an engine is looked after and driven optimally (good oil, fuel, coolant, mainly long drives, no labouring no over-revving for extended periods,) then it should outlive the car itself, this applies to any engine really.
