Default SMR Engines, been scammed, what now?

I bought put down a £500 deposit on an engine a while ago, I have tried to call back to pay the outstanding, but no reply what so ever.

So today I try again as usual, I get through to "James", I ask for a refund as I no longer want the engine, been waiting for ages for him and no contact what so ever.

He told me he isnt giving me a refund, I can get trading standards involved if I like, he isnt bothered.

I've contacted trading standards, they have asked me to write a letter to SMR engines. Well how do I do that? They dont have an address on their site and "James" refuses to give it out.

I've noticed they're linked to aload of other sites, all under the same people.

The money itself was paid into MDKL Motors account, the bank gave me this information. I have various addresses from other websites, but even if he gets the letter, its not going to phase him.

I've called the Police as Natwest advised, they have logged it all down they're awaiting further information, which I'm not quite sure what that is?

So whats the next step?

Any help would be great.

Cheers .

its illegal for a company to keep a deposit of any kind not many people know this a deposit it usually only non refundable when the item is broken ie. u have a car u put down a deposit incase it gets damaged.

If u ask for it back they have to refund it!!!! or else.

I disagree if i ever take a deposit on anything that is for sale it is non refundable, this is because if i have paid for an advert then some one comes along and wants it they can leave a deposit BUT then if any one else calls for item ill tell them its sold, no matter how many people ring,

So if said person didnt turn up why would i re fund there money after wasting my time?? you used to be able to take some ones "word" on things but not the case anymore there are far too many wasters about.

Its far too PC on here recently.

will wrx this is no reflection on your situation mate

It always amazes me that people still hand over large sums of money for engines and the like without researching the company, there are several respected companies on this site, why would you go with an unknown.

To the OP: I'm sure I've heard of that company name before and I don't recall it being good! If you paid by credit card, you may be able to get reimbursed without too much hassle,. If not, then you're gonna have to take em to court!

We get the same very unfortunate story on here quite a bit:

Someone's engine goes; they haven't got a small fortune to sort it. They get a proper quote which is usually in the region of 2.5k and think "I must be able to do better than that" Sure enough one of these jokers shows up and says: "I'll do you one for 1k" The poor cash strapped punter thinks, "that's more like it" and one of three things happens

1) They don't get anything
2) They get something that is knackered
3) They get something that works, but has not been built properly and runs like poo

Then after an array of complaints the gaffer of the company folds it then re-opens under a new trading name 3 months down the line.

The moral of this story: pay properly first time, pay once!

No such thing as a cheap engine build, unless you're competent enough to do it right yourself.

SMR engines are the middleman I think. What was the name of the company you actually bought from?

I used a company from Barking, I can't remember the name, but from the horror stories of all the companies that supply smr engines I'd just be persistent as possible to get your money back.

You need to do as much research as poss. by googling, contacting other users from here & other forums for address details etc.

I think badly could be where people tend to stick a load of modifications on their car and expect it to run like a shuttle without mapping it. They thrash the **** off it, then wonder why it had blown up. I've heard this story a few times on here.

Will wrx, this is no relation to you mate and I hope you get it sorted.

SMR engines are far from unknown, which makes any purchase from them even more amazing!
