Default Another quic crank question. Some one in the know!

Just finished rebuilding a block i had new shells etc. as i had a spare block with oil squirters and a block complete but cracked.

Anyway i put all he pumps etc back on went to put the woodruff key back on and it was just spinning thought hmmmm pretty sure it not meant to do that lol.

Any way took it back off and the little "lug" that sticks out off crank to lock the woodruff key in has fallen out??!?? and was laid on bench little half circle off metal next to it. It was fine as i was spinning crank at that side when i was lineing pistons up with rods. No idea how or why its come out. theres no signs off it breaking off as theres a little groove cut into crank for it. and its all pretty clean with no signs off stress.

Im guessing its not meant too as the other cranks i have are pretty solid.

Is it meant to come out?

If not can i get it fixed and how?

Yes the woodruff key is seperate to the crank, its a good idea to change it on a major build anyway as they have been known to fail. There not much money from Subaru.

As far as I know, the little lug is the woodruff key ?

Less than £2 from Subaru I seem to remember.

The woodruff key should be an interference fit (tight) into the crank, if this is not the case then either the woodruff key or the crank are knackered.

Your sentence "the little "lug" that sticks out off crank to lock the woodruff key in" is quite confusing as there are no "lugs" to keep the key in place... The key sits in the crank quite happily without any help.

Got any photo's??

Try a new key, as I said very cheap from Subaru.

It should be a tight fit into the slot in the crank, if even a new key is still falling out, sounds like the slot in the crank is worn ?
