Question

My STi 3 has Bilstein Prodrive suspension, is this as fitted by STi or has someone fitted this since it left the factory ?. The car was imported new and Prodrive converted the car to the UK spec. I'm wondering if it had the suspension changed as part of the work. Apparently Prodrive don't do conversions usually but the owner knew someone and it was done as a bit of a favour.

Exclamation

I was told that they are the same dampers, but different springs!

Could be wrong, but I'm sure someone will correct me!

Cheers

They *are* the same dampers only de-badged. Prodrive have the exclusive rights to the Scooby Billie dampers in this country which is why you can only get them as part of the PPP but I think that Bilstein are bringing out some new Scooby dampers here soon......(and I bet they'll sell like hot cakes!!!)

I thought only later model STi's had bilstein dampers.

My STi4 didnt have them (4 door though, so not sure about the 2 door typeR)

STi6 typeR definitely has them

Andy, good point - I guess I'm only talking about V5 onwards....I didn't think about the earlier stuff.

To clarify

The Bilstein/Eibach kit which we have WORLD rights to is an STI accessory in Japan and was probably fitted to this car in Japan.

As far as I am aware we did not in this case and do not fit parts to Japanese spec cars, so someone has been telling porkies.

The only STI car fitted with Bilsteins as OE was the 22B. Later STI cars have a Japanese made damper which is very similar in design and we also used this damper on P1.

Regards

Mike

Thanks for the replies folks.

Mike, I'll maybe get in touch with the first owner and get the history. He is apparently an RAC manager and the story was that he knew someone senior at Prodrive and that's where the car was originally converted. I was only interested to see if the suspension was OE or not. The dampers are blue and have Prodrive Bilstein stickers on them, are these the ones you supply to STi ?.

Cheers

Kevin.
