but does anyone have any advice for me ? from experience etc ? any little handy hints to make the job easier ?

its a my04 wrx, and obviously a full de cat up pipe ?

Up pipe, Remove:From top, tmic, turbo heat shield, down pipe, air box (induction kit), From underneath, splash guards, o/s arch liner(to remove a sensor), headers and heat shields, cross pipe, remove o/s engine mount bolt and jack up engine. This is suposed to take a subaru technition at least 4 hrs, took me about 6hrs, my cars a my06 2.5 wrx but pretty much the same, hope this helps

also, this may sound daft, but i read somehwere that when the spark plugs are changed something has to be done to bring the boost back up or something ?? i don't know might of meant something else, just remember reading that something had to be built back up by driving slowly for a while ? god knows !

Regarding the spark plug question i'm pretty sure they are just a simple swap. That's what I have always done without any probs. You maybe think of dry cranking engine after an oil change?

When I did my downpipe the O2 sensor sheared inside the oe downpipe and I needed a new one. Again soak it in WD40 the day before.

I take it the car is getting remapped after the mods?

Changed my classic up pipe last night, 4hrs indeed. Done from underneath but a few bits to move. undo the down pipe top nuts first then the bottom ones and slip the whole exhaust pipe down out the way.Remove the o/s manifold next. This gives you room after you've taken the rest of the up pipe nuts off to turn the up pipe and lower it down toward the front of the car. Its well worth getting new gaskets and nuts to replace. You dont want to be doing this job too many times, it can be tricky.......

Just a shame the downpipe has to come back off to do the uppipe, as the nuts are underneath it the secure the uppipe to the turbo

the quickest I managed to do and up-pipe on a newage wrx was just over 1 hour, everything was absolutly soaked in wd 40 before i started the just set to. I have done some that did take a couple of hours as the nuts just refused to move point blank..

Bearing in mind i can get the engine diff and gearbox out off a classic in 4 hours. To do a up pipe in that time does seem a tad excessive

yeah that would be mine with the oversized cb aerial, its now off the car finnished with it for this years runs out.

i basically removed intercooler,
remove turbo heatsheild
soak all bolts and nuts in wd40
remove downpipe first.
remove headers from underneath
unbolt upipe off the tubo and drop it out, can be a bit fiddly to get out but it will come out, some say jack the engine up but tbh i just pulled it out lol
then just slot the new one into place with a new gasket and just put back together in reverse order.

ah right, im guessing the plastic tray thing has to come off from underneath obviously ? so its just that simple, might have a go on sunday afternoon in that case, didn't want to start it if it was a big job because only have sun aft to do it

Having the right place and of course all the tools you need at hand, the job can be completed in a lessor time. I think every realistic Scooby owner knows that sometimes things just dont go to plan with the classic's do they mate?
