Tyres
First of all I'm new to ScoobyNet.... so hello
I'm really sorry about the next question it must be a pain to long standing contributors....anyway
I always wanted a Scooby so I treated myself to one last year
a 2006 WRX UK , I love the car and now appreciate what all the fuss was about.…..however sometime over the next 1000 miles I will almost certainly need a new set of tyres.
I have read all of the different opinions on this site but am a wee bit confused,
I do about 4000 miles year and only on the rare occasion do I have a bit of right foot, 'that was interesting' and really put the car and its tyres ect to the test........
I wont be using the car for track days or stimulating driving everyday, I just need a good set of safe(wet and dry), not cheap (been there and done that) tyres, that may be an improvement on the Bridgestone Re050’s that are on the car at the moment..
The car has only covered 22000 miles the tyre sizes are 215/45/17/87W
For the right set all in, would I expect to pay £300/£350???
There are no issues with unusual tyre wear at this time but would it be prudent to get the car 4wheel aligned again after new tyres had been fitted.
Again I’m sorry for the same basic questions
Thanx

Not in the list is Falklen 452 which i've recently bought and am highly impressed with them
You may as well get the alignment done

A few years ago most people swore by Toyo T1Rs, then the GoodYear GSD3 took over as favourites. These have recently been replaced by the GoodYear Asymmetrics. These are what I'd go for as they give what you want. They perform well wet or dry and give good life.
The Vredstein Ultrac Sessantas are highly regarded too and are supposed to be cheaper, but most places I've looked they are about the same. Not sure on how they last, either. Worth having a look, though. Camskill are cheap, but you need to get them fitted.
You could save a few quid by going for the Falkens as they will be fine for normal use, but personally, I wouldn't skimp on a car worth £10kish.

Goodyear GSD3's, good all-round tyre not the cheapest but at the end of the day it's the only part of the car thats on the tarmac. Good tyres and brakes
O and welcome, enjoy!!!

bit of an outsider but, continental sport contact 2 are a v. good tyre as well. granted there may well not be a lot of people that have tried them, but i have, and found them to be really good!! these tyres are standard on porsche in the contact 3 version and also on a few fords. much better than re050s imo, (tried them as well and thought they were sh1te tbh), but as someone has already said, its best not to scrimp on tyres so get the best you can for the money you have!! keep an eye out in the for sale section , and try posting in the wanted as well. you never know. So do we still consider the Toyo T1-R's to be a reasonable and respectable tyre ? I'm in need of 4 new tyres and don't want to skimp on performance, but im not exactly planning on taking the Scoob track side.
Best price I've been able to find is £325 fully fitted (that's 4 tyres)

I can vouch for the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas, I have a set on my 2005 STI, personally i think their excellent and at approx £100 a corner fitted they are well priced.

Not wanting to sound to "budget" or anything but at £325 for 4 fitted Toyo T1 R's, I'm sorely tempted to head in this direction. Assuming we don't have any major issues with them ??
Anyone still running these or had them put on recently ?

toyo t1rs are good tyres, as wellas good value for money. yes there are better out there but as long as you are aware of what you have on and respect that then you will have no problems. seen a thread recently though saying they can be very smelly, especially when garaged after use

Toyo T1R still good on classics. Just replaced mine with GSD3's and both very similar. The Toyos have slightly more feel and don't fidget in a straight line but wear the shoulders quickly, especially on Prodrive settings.
Swapped to GSD3 because have had a German set fitted to the wife's classic for years and found that they don't slither around so much in the wet and wear well. Set recently aquired are made in Thailand and have to say they don't inspire the same level of confidence as the German ones, but they may not be scrubbed in properly yet.

The veridistiens are great mate and camskills service is brilliant. Excellent grip all round and they beat the Goodyear in my opinion I used to use them too.
They grip so well at the front if I turn to snappy the back fitted with budget tyres thanks to previous owner losesses grip
seem to be wearing well too. Go with Goodyear or the ultrac sessanta and u won't go far wrong

my scooby came with bridgestones on (from scooby dealer)
so I replaced them with bridgestones when they needed them
are they not popular then- figure if they're a factory fit- they'll be good surely ???

RE070's only came on the STI though I believe.
They are very good but tramline badly once they get down to the 2nd half of the tread.
Turn in on the Ultrac's is superb.

I stuck GSD3's on my '06 WRX when the RE050's wore out.
I felt the sidewalls were a little softer when I fitted them, but new tyres always feel softer than fully-worn tyres.
They took a good 300+ miles to bed-in too, which didn't help.
Very pleased with them now - strong wet and dry grip with nice & progressive breakaway, and they are wearing well.
Got mine from Camskill (as usual). XL versions were available for only a few quid more (stiffer sidewalls) if you want them. The new F1 Assymetric were much dearer at the time - not sure what the differential is like now(?)

Team, again thanx for the replies and keep em coming.....
As far as the 4 wheel alignment , should this be something I would consider if all four corners are replaced at he same time , the car was checked for alignment by the dealers a year ago before I drove it away as I had insisted that they change the discs and brakes.... as I said at the start of this thread there does not appear to be any issues with uneven tyre wear..............
