rear end smash classic wagon
hi all just wondering if anybody is able to say how strong the rear ends of classic wagons are as i have had someone run into the back of mine today in a fiat ciquento. Was stationary at the time and would estimate they were doing 20 mph at most. Lookily when it happened police were actually right at side of us and saw it all plus got other drivers details for me. Looks like it has only scuffed rear bumper in a few places and cracked numberplate. Just wondering if it is likely to of done any damage behind bumper which cant be seen. Also anyone know how much it would be likely to cost to have bumper repainted.
Cheers andy

Take the bumper bar off and have a look, easy to do. If you don't know how I can post up some pics. Bumpers are really cheap mate but not that strong IMHO. There's a fair gap before the body work and probably would have popped the side fixings if it was serious ?
Heres mine when I changed it for a better one.
HTH.
edited to say if you get a new bumper ebay etc, classic saloon and wagon bumpers are identical for fitment.

They are pretty strong, I had some **** (drink driver) go into the back of my neighbours car, which then went int the back of mine, on saturday night. Just a new bumper I hope - was thinking of respraying it anyway. Gutted though, its not fair.

well latest on this is told guy who hit me that i would need bumper replacing due to been bent in middle and also having snapped the plastic where it bolts to chassis on passenger side which took most impact, so him and his dad been to look at car tonight. His dad rekons that it doesnt need bumper changing and also wouldnt cost £80 to repaint and had the cheek to offer me £30 for inconnvience of his son hitting me. As a result im now going to get quote tommorow for new bumper plus bumper bar rather than 2nd hand one i was willing to get and have painted and if there not happy with that then off to insurance it goes.

good luck with it m8, i run into a friends car (long story) about 10 year ago, it was an old sierra, totalled his N/S door and i gave him £100 then, and he worked in a body shop so was doing the work himself. Be looking at least around the 150-200 mark for yours i would of thought if you were gonna get the bumper S/H then get it painted depending on who you know etc.

I had the exact same problem about 2 months a go. Some one ran at the wife while she was in our wagon. I was tempted to not go through the insurance as it only needed a new bumper and bumper bar but the other driver started to be a *** so went through the insurance. His insurance contacted me the next day and by the end of it I had £1400 in my bank to repair the car. It ended up costing me £800 with a 2nd hand bumper and bumper bar front and rear bumpers sprayed top spoiler sprayed repair made to rear arch and a full machine polish.
Let the insurance companies sort it out.

hi just been through the same thing but lickily it was the miss's car and not mine but if youve been to hospital and been diagnosed with wipe lash id go through insurance.if you need treatment fizzyo etc it costs loads but your insurance will pay for it ,and you ll get a nice little pay out in a few months and you would nt need to take any time of work either.better to be safe than sorry mate.
