If someone is going to hit you - my advice? Let them...
Got virtually run off the road yesterday by some twonk in a Vectra who decided to change lanes on the dual carriageway when he was next to me.
He didn't signal, just pulled straight over, I swerved, back end came out, corrected it, went the other way and the back slammed into the kerb.
Needless to say the bar steward didn't stop...
This was the result:
As well as wrecking the alloy wheel (and probably buckling it), the impact also looks to have bent either the shock or the lower suspension arms as the wheel isn't quite sitting right.
So I'll need to have one or both of those replaced and then have the geometry redone again - all in all probably £5-600 of repairs. Just hoping it's not the subframe that's bent.
In short all, if someone drives their car at you, let them hit you whatever your brain tells you otherwise - or it'll be expensive!
Oh and for those of you who bang on about what great tyres GSD3's are - I have GSD3's on the back - if they'd have gripped like my Vreddies on the front did at the time, this probably wouldn't have happened at all - just makes me want shot of them even more than I did before. I can't blame the tyres for the accident obviously but I can't help but feel if they offered better grip then I'd never have hit the kerb in the first place
Hope you don't have to find out the hard way like me.

what an ****! I almost had the same thing yesterday here in france, coming off a roundabout onto two lanes, me on the outside lane just behind and middle-aged french guy in a **** or something, was about to put my foot down but something made me hold back and then he just slowly moved over to the middle of the road , straddling both lanes and then slowly back again. I gave the horn a good blast, and once he settled I passed him on full boost with another healthy does of the horn.
Hope you manage to sort it without too much trouble - is there any CCTV in the area you can check for evidence or at least to try to get reg number of the other car?
Finally, I would always have the same tyres on all 4 corners, particularly on a AWD car - personally.

i did something similar in my ctr. the back wheel was very much out of alignment (visiably) and i feared the worse. i took it to a four wheel alignment place and they were able to bring it back into line by adjustment. so you may get away with just a wheel.

Bummers!! I hate people like this that leave a trail of sh*t behind them!
New wheel wrapped and ready to go! You should get it for Tuesday

Hoping the rest of the car is not bent too much!

Gutted for you mate. I have found out in the past if you are going to have mismatched tyres allways put the best pair on the back so you are less likely to get caught out by oversteer.

I wish the guy had left a trail of sh*t behind him - I'd have followed him and beat the cr*p out of him
The suspension took a bit of a knock - think I'm going to probably replace both the shock and lower arms just to be sure, need to try and source a second hand low mileage set of bugeye rear struts that don't knock - could be fun.... luckily the bodywork is intact no damage done, so that's something I suppose!

I was almost hit by two cars within two junctions on the same roundabout on the way home tonight! The relatively quick rack steering helped me get out of the way of one car that decided to turn back into the roundabout at an exit, and a quick dab of power helped me get past a transit and trailer that tried to collect me on my turn off.
Problem is, self-preservation kicks-in at times like this....I could quite well do with a couple of new front wings at the moment, but I always seem to steer away from potential accidents like this!! Shame your experience ended in damage to your car

Unlucky mate,
A small word of advice though, take the opportunity to get a pair of vreds to match the front, matching tyres are needed in my humble opinion!

After one too many near misses of the same kind, any time I'm an iffy situation now I've forced myself to get into the habit of doing nothing except brake hard first, ask questions later. Basic thinking is that a slower impact is always going to hurt/cost less (if it's going to happen anyway), and insurance-wise you'll nearly always come out better taking a hit up the rear than side-on or your front to the other guy's rear. The only exception I'll sometimes make is if I'm already under acceleration when I see it coming, then put the hammer down even harder instead to get clear.
It still sucks having to contend with some of the f***wit drivers on the roads these days.

Oh well, shelled out £280 for 2 rear shocks, a set of lateral arms and a rear trailing arm from Jap Performance Parts today, should arrive Monday and then I can get it over to James @ GRD to get it all sorted hopefully. Will keep you all posted peeps - hopefully the car'll be back to her good old self in no time...

Gutted for you mate, but you're ok that's the main thing.
I've not yet tried the Verdsteins, but have extensive experience with the GSD3s
IMHO were the best all rounders for a scooby and remarkable in the wet.
The snapping back end was most likely caused not by the tyres but by the weight transfer from front to rear precipitated by the emergency avoidance. That's what gave the verdys the grip and took it away from the GSD3s. It would have been the same had you been running the GSD3s at the front and the verdys at the rear.
Scoobies REALLY don't like it if you turn and lift/brake suddenly! Many have found out that 4wd only confers extra traction under application of power to their cost.
I hope the car is back on the road soon and the muppet in the vectra loses their license for driving like a t*at!

Strongly considering investing in one of those advanced driver training days now - I've had the car nearly 3 years but never experienced such a severe tail out action that I couldn't correct in time until last week...had to learn the hard way!
I run a 22mm Whiteline rear ARB on the middle setting - wondering if taking it down to the lower setting might make it a little less skitterish....

Didn't even know this happend old chap. Main thing is your ok mate.
Gutted for you. I know what ****e your going through at the moment so I pray that those house mates of yours are still about and your making the most of it.
Ask the girls if you can have a worn pair of under crackers as a good luck charm to place on each corner (if you know what I mean)

Sorry, haven't been on here for a while. Things are a bit better anyway - James managed to sort out the issues and the car's much better now, thank christ - cost me a few quid in bits though.
Have gone back to bugeye shocks and prodrive springs - must say the ride's a lot more comfy now without the whiteline springs on the back.
Not living with the girls anymore though dude - I'm back home again
Pop round for a beer at some point - pub right across the road

The same thing happened to a mate of mine, but instead of running into a curb he rolled the van he was driving...the idiot who caused it just drove on. I know it's bloody annoying bud, but it could have been worse.
