Yes that's a definite mate!

About £50/£70 and you want a Walbro 255 Fuel pump!

Theyre not expensive, you can do it yourself and yes: you really need to get it done before increasing your fuel flow requirements.

Depends on what kind of power the car will be making, I was advised it's not really necessary until about 300BHP. Ran mine on the standard fuel pump for the last 9 months with nearly 290 and no issues at all.

It is in the boot on the offside right next to behind the seat on the classic. Just about can replace it wihout taking the seat out but hell of a lot easier with rear seat out. I was just lazy .

Where are you finding these for £50? If you're talking about new.

Cheapest I've seen is £80.

I do wonder if this 'Upgrade your Fuel Pump' is another ScoobyNet Myth ....

Think about it, the standard pump is not running at it's limit - I would guess that 50% of the fuel pumped to the engine is returned - as standard.

The poster above who stated that this so called 'upgrade' isn't needed with most power increases has it spot-on IMO.

It would be simple to prove, find out how much juice a 2ltr 16v engine needs to burn in order to create 300bhp, then find out the lph speed of the original pump and work out if the standard pump on standard injectors can supply enough juice to create the target bhp.

Theres equations out there

I was told that the 2.5 litre fuel pump is much more capable and does not need changing unless your going for massive power, Im running 340/360 with no problem at all .

Is it beyond your comprehension that it could simply be a marketing tool? Maybe the pumps they fit are cheaper to them than the standard pumps?

if your not running big power and your current pump is working fine then you can add a uprated one at a later date as its the fuel reg that controlls the fuel pressure not the pump.

Seems like yet another thread on this forum has turned into an argument. Just be nice.

I was told by Andy Forest a while back that it wasn't absolutely necessary but if I put one on, I'd be future proof. Meaning I could go for bigger mods and I'd be safe.

Since when has a difference of opinion been called an argument? Two different things .... I believe that the standard fuel pump is good for enhanced power, some do not take that view.

Both opinions are valid and can be aired. It's got zero at all to do with being 'nice' or otherwise.

The back box certainly is ! thing is, for the sake of £80 it pays to think ahead at the beginning.

for the price of a walbro fuel pump you might aswell do it than run into problems down the line and saying why didnt i just change that fuel pump when i was going to, most tuners when asking them about a remap on a wrx they most of the time mention installing a walbro fuel pump before the mapping date, bob rawle remapped my wrx and he recommened changing the fuel pump on my 2.5 ltr turbo before the remap because it is close to running 300bhp and has 340 ft/lb torque
