2ND CARS
A lot of you on here will have your Scoobys as second cars but how often do you use them, I use mine as a second car, some weeks every day but I can go a month without useing it. I had to replace the battery today though the last one looked like it had been there a while, but would like to know if you have had trouble with your batteries. If you havnt driven your car for a while do you charge your battery first or does it start every time? What sort of time length should I be looking at for the battery to last without use, all comments welcome thanks.

Mine's a second or even third car. It gets used as and when I feel the urge! That could be twice a week or once a month.
I've had the battery problem too, I replaced my battery after about 5 years. I don't charge it - just jump in and use it; it starts fine with the new battery.

my scoob is a second car. i VERY VERY RARELY use it. its only here for polishing. lol. in the 17 months that ive had the scoob it has never got wet. after tallying up the last two mot's it showed that i had done 130 miles in 1 year. .
i make sure that i start it at least once a week just to keep a current in the battery. i have left it for 2 - 3 weeks and the battery does go flat. ive had to charge it a couple of times, but the general condition seems to still be ok. but i am prepared to get a new one. im looking into optima batterys. not cheap but they seem to be good at holding charge so i have been told.

I probably use my WRX a couple of times a month. Whilst it is in the garage I plug it into a Optimate charger - that's an intelligent battery charger which has a variable charge rate to keep the battery topped up. I found that when I didn't have the Optimate the battery could easily become flat ( I presume due to the Trakker ). Also use the Optimate on my motorbike for the same reason and found that they are really worth the money ( about £40 for mine ).

according to my old MOT's I managed a whole 1,500 miles last year of which half of that was done in one day on the McRae Gathering run from Lanark!
Although I did take it out for a run in the Peak district last Sunday.... very early in the morning before the day trippers were out of bed
Anyone else do early morning runs?
As for the battery I got fed up of it loosing charge so now I disconnect the battery when its not in use..
Cheers

mine is a second car.
Usually averages out i use it about once a week (usually on the weekend), but sometimes it does go a few weeks without moving.
Not had any battery issues.... yet!

I also use a battery optimiser. If your car is in a garage with power, it has got to be the best option. Costs about £50, but is supposed to prolong the life of the battery. Without it, mine goes flat in 7-10 days.

Just over 2,000 miles in the last year for mine. Had to recharge the (original) battery a couple of weeks ago, but only because I'd left the internal light on

Mine is purely a 2nd car and only driven every other weekend or when there is an event on.
My battery will start to go flat after about 10 day's, but once its had a good run it'll be good for another week or 2.

my scooby is a daily drive.....my second car is KITT from knight rider LOL
www.markskitt.co.uk - marks kitt
before i fitted a battery isolator to my kitt replica, every time i went to use it after a few weeks the battery was dead.
in fact one year i went through 3 batteries!
battery isolator switch cost me £10 and has saved me loads of money, would recommend as an option for anybody who suffers from dead batteries on there second car

Both my Scoobs used every day, average 30 mile each way commute (when they are working). Have a Festa as 3rd car for when an engine or gearbox blows LOL. And a modifiied Escort RS turbo on the drive as the "hobby car". Just lucky I suppose

Mine is decidedly a second car at the moment. Not insured or MOT'd, it's only coming out at ScoobySprint events
It always starts no problem as long as the battery is charged and it takes about a month to discharge so that it won't.
Up until now, I have tended to use it as a backup car when my Volvo is in for servicing etc or to play in the snow with
