Default found some rot :(

ok so i was looking around my scoob and realised my back numberplate lights werent on so i had a look and realised the metal that hold them has completely rusted through could crumple it in my hands.
just wondering is this an essential part for holding on the bumper and is it expensive piece to buy? i only ask as im a complete novice when it comes to cars any info and help much appreciated
Thanks
John

Hi mate

think its fairly common
just had to replace my front and rear bumper supports on my my99 classic totally rotted through
cost me £90 for both and giving them a coat of hamerite as well before putting them on
the front ones are fairy cheap new and the rear was second hand

cheers matt

All the crap is dragged up and through the rear number plate by the airflow under the car. As stated a common fault.

Yep just changed my back one aswell on My98 Terzo Classic. Only noticed it when my bumper started sagging abit. Not a hard job really. When i removed my bar it was that corroded it litteraly crumbled as i took it off. I was surprised my bumper didnt fall off. It was in pieces. I was lucky to find one for £10 that some guy was going to put on his car but he stripped it instead. It was brand new. Just got abit of spray paint on it. Lol.
