You could find an engine thats up for sale with fsh, 50k miles, always warmed up/cooled down, oil changes every 3k, total bargain at 1k, put it in and 200 miles down the line it goes bang, or get yours rebuilt which may be a safer option

The point im trying to make is that you dont know what your buying, only what the buyer said about the engine, chances are its 150k, oil changes every 3 years/30k miles, so your safest and cheapest option is a rebuild

i see your point. my wallet aint that deep tho cant be spunking 3k+ on a engine as much as i would love too. cant afford to run a second car and have no where to SORN the scoob to do the very lenthy re-build. (coz it would be month by month!)
and b4 it starts from the snotty ones on here, i aint a chav, i did know the risks of owning a scoob and no i dont rag it everywhere, just unlucky its started to sound rough.
so spending a few 100 quid on another engine is my only option really.
i could then maybe think about rebuilding my engine month by month

I've got one running fine, if you like you can see it before it's removed from the car, its in the 80's but was on 50 something when i brought it before converting to mph. i'm in the middle of building a later semi closed forged 2.0 so about to take this one out, let me know if your interested and make an offer, im in harlow, and its a classic import wrx 96, oil changes every other month and only run on vpower
