Question just had headgasket done, but got high temp.

just got my car back today from garage, after having head gasket done and rad replaced. done a 30mile round trip today and just as i got home the temp gauge started to rise. checked under the hood and the coolant overflow tank is full. no oil in it. it was half full when picked car up from garage this mornin. any1 have any clue as to the cause?

Might be airlocked? Does your heater work okay?

check the header tank cap is working properly (i.e holding the correct pressure and sucking in the coolant when the engine cools down after switch off). Perhaps swap wirth a known good one. Try bleeding the system again. by running it with the cap off and topping it up. Thermostat could be stuck.

Check that the temp sensor is working ok...could now be giving a false reading after the head gasket went

have run the engine with header cap removed and topped up with coolant and it stayed full. then replaced header cap and ran engine again whilst checking overflow tank. over flow tank started to go down after stopped the engine. could it have been just an air blockage?

Its not unusual to have this happen after coolant has been replaced as air locks are common. So it could have simply been that, if it now runs normally after your action then its certain it was. If not then as mentioned best to go back and have it investigated.

cheers
