Default Selling Car With Private Number Help

Hi Guys,
I am planning to sell my car very soon but i have a private number on it. The DVLA website is not very useful so am hoping you guys can give me a quick and easy answer. What do i do if someone wants to buy the car on the day they come, do i just take the reg of and put on the normal reg for the car. In need of help,

Thanks

Not quite as simple as that if you intend to keep the private plate as far as I know you have to apply to the dvla to put that plate on retention and then have the original plate re issued to the car. It can take up to 6 weeks for it to take place.

I am not 100% on the above but give them a call and I am sure they will point you in the right direction

No mate beause the road tax wont match the reg if you want to keep the plate contact the dvla fill in the forms and get the car back on it original plate, it can takes a minim of 2 weeks. you also have to get the new tax disc sorted once the plates are done.

You need to apply to get the Registration taken off the car and either transferred to another car or put on a Retention Certificate. Some useful info here :-

Retaining a registration mark and how to apply : Directgov - Motoring

Cheers,

Ian.

as above but it take 7 to 10 days to get the plate put on retention. so do it before you sell the car. or anyone even looks at it

I cant understand why its costing so much at 105 pound of something like that. I dont want to retain it for a year. i want to put the normal plate back on the car and within a month of selling my car i will have a new car and be putting it on that. So why they are telling me is the min i have to spend is 105 pounds

Its probably to cover all the costs (bull****) and stuff. Im in the same boat, i just have to fill out a v317 form (which you can download) with mine and the new car owners details. Then take it along with the logbook to your local dvla office and they will sort out the rest.

Because the plate is being held in limbo as such and not directly transfered to the new car. Also from memory I think DVLA recommend hanging on the the car for 4 weeks after the retention is done in case they won't to inspect it !!!!!!
