Default Power Ideas?

Hi All,

I am thinking of a couple of mods any would like ideas of power I could see.

I want to be able to pass MOT emissions without having to swap CATS on an off.
I want to remap to run on 95 ron as 97 at garages near me are going to stop selling it.

Any ideas of what power figures I could see?

The car is a 2.5 STI 2006.

I don't think that you'll pass the MOT with out any cats. Although you could try a sport cat as they're supposed to be the dogs ..............

Decat full exhaust, remap, k&n filter, walbro fuel pump = 340 to 360bhp.

Suspension - Whiteline ARB, Prodrive springs or coilovers dependant on cash.

Brakes - Pagid/Fefodo pads or full conversion, cash depending.

exhaust and fmic will be your best bet for reliable and safe power gains also a remap to accompany and you will be smiling

Do away with your top mounted inter cooler.
Get the largest front mounted inter cooler you can afford. That will then stand you in good stead for long term mods.
De Cat exhaust (mot's wont be a prob). Many members on here will tell you where to go. There are many places that will sort that out.
Uprated fuel & oil pump.
Re map.
Sun strip for front screen saying:- (Driver's side) "When I brake hard" (Passenger side) "I break wind"

£3000 - £5000 depending on spec.

If I stick for top mount cooler and leave one CAT on, Sports cat and mapped on 95 ron, what is the estimated power I would see?

I would think Around 300 bhp -340 bhp.
Did you not like the idea of using the octane booster ? It would make the car much more responsive when mapped to it.

THe running cost with octain booster would almost double and I do 80 miles a day. My car I think is at 261 bhp and if I could get 320 or more with a sports cat and remap on 95 ron, I get more power than I have now and lower running cost, double win lol

u will find it hard runnin 320 without a fmic my sti was running 320 but very close to detting with the heat soak u can have a good fmic supplied and fitted for 650 its well worth it and have a 100cell sports cat put on about 200 quid that way u dont need to worry about mot then

AFP don't recommend a need to change to a FMIC at this level - the car has an TMIC, albeit not a huge one. You could go for a bigger one but it's not really necessay at this level. Many folks are happy with exhaust inc sports cat, remap & remap. Bear in mind that alone could cost £1500.

I'm running about 370bhp on a top mounted intercooler - you don't need a front mount until over 400bhp.

Is yours not an STi?, if it is, its running more than 261bhp. Its should be 280 as standard and on a rolling road they usually run more than that. As said on another thread, it can be mapped on whatever fuel you want and even on 95ron, you can expect 320bhp from a good map/mapper. .

Both valid points - the classics have smallers ICs and if you're looking for 500bhp you'll need something more!

Yea the newer ones are a fair bit better Im running 450ish bhp with mine at the mo with no issues.

I would say get yourself a full 3 inch system with sports cat £750ish, either uprated pannel air filter or APS Inner wing CAI (but you dont realy need the CAI at your level but it sounds good! 100ish 2nd hand) a set of GT spec 2 headers and up pipe, not sure on cost but not over £500 I would say. And finally a good ECUTEC remap £550 + Vat.

Should see you at about 350ish bhp due to only running 95 on your 2.5 but im no expert

Do you thin its acheivable with a sports cat or normal cat, re-map on 95 ron, to get 320 HP or more?

With Sports cat, yes. You'd be best to email a mapper to check their views on mapping on 95 ron. eg Jolly Green Monster on here.

Im sure Meercat custom exhausts will make you one for around that sort of money as a full decat is 550 (at least it was when I had mine made)

Meercat Custom Exhausts and Performance Centre

Even Colin McRae used them!!!
