Road Car 400+ bhp WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Give me your reasons why you think you need this amount of power, when over 90% of the cars will never see or even go around a track, let around the Nurburgring......................
Chassis development is by far more important/safer than grunt, so come on, why feed/spend all your hard earned ££££££££`s on the engine, when in fact other than in a straight line in wont be any faster.....
I await the onslaught.

Why do many guys drink 12 pints when in all honesty 7 will do the job?
Spend all your hard earned ££££££££`s on more beer ? .....
I run over 400BHp on the road.
If you were given a 300Bhp Impreza for one week, then you had mine for one week, I know what one you would choose !

Lardy New-Age !
Went to Nostell Priory last weekend... and a F*rd Fan asked me "Whazat ?"
So I said " 400+ bhp of reliable Jap car."
He sneered "Yeah don't they all"..... "YES !" I replied.

It's like lots of things in life, you do it because it's there to be done. True, you don't NEED 400bhp but it's that bloke thing, like having an Omega when a Timex works fine, CK underpants when BHS keep your nads just as warm!
My STi is "fairly" powerful but I never use it! Can't remember the last time I gave it full throttle, in fact at a recent track day at Bedford, my AVC-R told me the most throttle I had used was 68% (still managed to get the discs a pale shade of blue, though)

When you get to a genuine 500+ a large chunk of the "taxed" road legal ones are not used as an everyday car. Most are primarily used for events, track or drag racing or as a second car.

Even road going Supercars are struggling to improve performance figures now, EVO's and Impreza's can Hit 60MPH in around 4-5 seconds (and even my old UK Turbo car can do it in just under 6) with a some work done to them but even the best Road going Super car's are at around the 3 second marks.. (OK they are faster at the upper end but who's going to do 200MPH+ plus on the roads) so there is a limit to how fast you can make a car and keep it usable for the road...... just look at the Top Gear board and the improvements are now only fractions between the cars.... even if you built an Impreza with a 1000 BHP the improvements between that and a 400 BHP Impreza would be fractions.... so what is the Ideal usable BHP/Cost point for an impreza? 350-400 would be my guess as any more would probably involve massive cash injections and possible reliability issues....

It is relatively cheap to get 450 bhp from a New-Age 2.0 STI.
Compared to other new cars on the market, it's even cheaper with an Ev*....
IMHO

P.S. My 42,000 mile old clutch cried enough though...

i thought that above 380 of each that the internals are being pushed to the limits and uprated pistons, rods are best?
so what do you need to do to get 450 from a newage sti (hawkeye)

Scoobyspanners made some good points.
I have had a long term modification programme with RCM, driving my P1 at 300 then 400 and now 500.
To achieve the 500+ is the expensive part as tuners like RCM build the engine to cope with MUCH more and rightly so.
Looking back, 400 was a great power level for the roads and very drivable.
500, and you realise that you own a seriously fast car!.
I get fed up hearing "It's alright having that power but where can you use it"
You obviously don't drive it flat out through High Streets, or with your grandparents in the back. You select the right places at the right times as well as track days and other events.
Great fun.
