Question

Hi peebs,

There is a new fuel that Shell has just bought out here in Greece called V Power. There are rumours that the fuel is being imported from the UK. Does anyone know this fuel? If so what is the octane rating?

cheers,

Wrexy.

Cheers fellas.

I take it the rumours that the fuel has been imported from the UK is a load of crap then. Otherwise it would have had the same name. Plus, Shell already have SUL here which is 98 RON. It's probably some new 95 RON fuel.

http://www.shell.com.hk/stationpro/vpower/vpower.htm

http://www.shell.com.my/or/v-power/intro.htm (recognise that fish ? )

Reading that, sounds like Optimax with a different name for different locations. Mention of 98 RON at the bottom of the HK page, and 97 on the Malaysian page - it obviously depends on regional variations.

Cheers Billabong.

You could be right!. I do recognise that fish. Same one as used in the optimax adverts. I found the Greek Shell site which talks about the new fuel. No mention of RON rating. Most people here think it's 95 RON cos we already have 98RON SUL. I will contact Shell Greece in the morning to find out. They have a customer phone number on their site. Looks like it may well be Optimax in a different name.

Regards,

Wrexy.

More news. One of the guys on the Greek performance forums reckons he has rung Shell on the number I found and he was told the RON rating is 95

Something fishy going on me thinks!

Sorry to upset you all, but V-power is at least 99 ron (at least is the guaranteed level stated by shell). It's been on the Italian market since one year. Very coooool. The only problem is that italian magazines tested it and compared to normal 95 ron (we don't have 98 ron) and it seems to overdry the internals of the engine : mostly the valves. It is therefore suggested to do some tanks of V-power and some of normal one.

C,

Thanks for that info. Do your garages advertise 98 RON even though you don't have 98 ? I know you said you don't have 98 RON but I'm wondering, that because I countries are next to each other, whether we have 98 RON or not. There are so many different rumours going on here I don't know what to believe. The garages here on the pumps have Super Unleaded 98 RON on them and the web sites, the Greek ones also say we have 98 RON.

This V Power, if it's coming from the UK, must be 98/99 RON. Why is customer service saying 95 RON. Have they been given wrong info to dish out to the public? The advertising including that fish is the same as the Optimax adverts.

I suppose time will tell.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

You're from Malaysia by any chance?

Actually there is a commercial on TV with Michael Schumacher recommending it. No mention of RON rating though.
