Question Need Advice on buying

Hi Guys

Haven't been here for a few years, since I sold my terzo, but I'm now looking at getting another scooby and had my eye on sti type R,

Trouble is I drive a lot of miles a year (around 35000), tried the diesel route when I sold my Terzo and didn't like it I bought a 320dt great car but don't like the diesel so at the moment I'm driving a Corsa VXR, but i really miss my scooby.

Now I have seen a lovely STI Type R version 6 with 44000 miles looks mint for £8500 is this the correct price, but I'm concerned on the fuel cost not sure if driven sensible how much mpg I will get, my corsa is averaging about 34mpg

Or should I go for a different variant maybe a STI bug eye or blob eye, but it has to be blue, Yvonne (my wife) said I can have another scooby as long as it's blue.

Advice on best suitable scooby would be great

Thankyou

I would say at the mileage you do per year, a newage WRX possibly with ppp would suit your needs better than a v5 sti.

You can't really look at Type Rs and worry about fuel consumption.

My RA is for sale - same colour as a Terzo and will give better MPG than an STI and will be just as quick when you want it - have a look in for sale section for my thread if your interested.

Something like this would suit your needs better if doing high miles per year..

RA = Race Altered

Reduced weight and (usually) shorter gear ratios for better get up and go..... often the cheapest OEM car as it has so many bits missing LOL

Todge

If you are thinking of a bugeye then be wary of the "RA" badge and check carfully....the Original Bugeye RA was no match for the equivalent Mitsubishi EVO and was dropped from the line up as it was crap

This does not apply to the "classic RA"

The Newage "RA" surfaced later as the "spec C"

It's all a bit confusing LOL

Try what I did. Buy the Scooby and get a runabout. Was a 600 Yam until we had a baby then became a little diesel. The money I saved in fuel not running the Scooby everyday paid for the diesel, tax and insurance for the runabout and I was still in credit.

The other thing was when you drove the Scooby it made you realise even more so just how special they are

Now moved to NI and lost the runabout and changed the Scooby to a later Blobeye STI PPP with a few extra Prodrive bits on. Have just ordered a new set of rims and booked the car into the bodyshop to sort out some scratches and paintwork and feel the need for a runabout again to keep the Impreza in top condition

The gearing on an RA will help it guzzle yet more fuel surely ?

35,000 miles a year is a lot to be getting 20 mpg into !

Shaun

this was the car I was looking at what do you think, so I will probably be looking at 20mpg then, a r s e thats lower than i thought, i was hoping maybe might get about 28mpg

Well it's deffo a Type R (Retna) jap import as it has 2 doors and a rear wash wipe LOL ....and looks like a version 6 STi to my untrained eye, not sure about the seats though LOL

Hopefully TonyBurns will pop up in a few minutes and let you know what it actually is

Same with mine. The old RAs were cheap but the WRC editions (STI RA, RA, Type R and a wagon) weren't being last of the line.

The all blue stuff inside by the way is all OE.

How can you tell that it is a version 4,

So you think that it's up for to much, if I went for it how much should I pay,

Also by the looks of it you are the resident expert, how many mpg do you expect I will get, (not that I'm concerned about the fuel cost I just need to make sure that the car allowance will cover it)

Anyway thanks for you help

Definately not an expert you can tell its a version 4 by the engine to start with, the little black thing sits exactly in the center on the phase 1.5 engines, on the phase 2 they are off to the right when you look into the engine, also the steering wheel doesnt have the nice badge in, and the seats dont have the red strips on the bolsters (top and bottom parts), but its seriously over priced for a version 4 (plus its an S reg, like my version 5 which was an early one).
MPG wise, mid to high 20's, even up to about 33 mpg if you take your time but there are some nicer ones for less money (or newer), PistonHeads.com :: Speed Matters is a good place to look there was a version 6 WRC limited for sale in the for sale section, now thats worth a look

Subaru : V6 sti type R Limited WRC 54k miles £7250

If you have 8.5k to spend, then this should definately be on your buy now list!

I cannot praise these twin scroll cars enough, more goodies than the uk cars and the power delivery is just sooooooooo nice no burble though (more like a sports bike )

Nope well lane aint the best place but as long as its had regular oil changes and been pretty well maintained, it should be ok

Still i would be tempted by that 2003 JDM twin scroll

The UK 300 looks a genuine car but as ever you pay over the odds for any sort of limited edition......

I'd go for get "up and go" rather than pose value LOL https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...ml#post8808630
